Um, no? We hung around alligators all this past week in the Everglades. They’re cool, just respect them and don’t swim in their waters or get too close. They’re not going to “sneak up on people”. This alligator wanted the fish, not the man. If they snuck up on anyone it’s because that person got too close for their comfort.

My goodness‼️ I grew up in South Florida, fishing and swimming in the rivers, and since moved to Georgia. Back then, we would see a gator or two every now and then. They were on the endangered list back then, but man, that is craaazy right there‼️ We would swim in the Loxahatchee river, knowing they might be around, but they weren't or didn't seem aggressive like this, and this video is now 11 years ago, can now understand why so many reports of attacks now‼️ Thanks for sharing Capt Shane

Only been living in Florida for about a year and have seen so many gators in the Canal. They're usually not anything to be afraid of, cautious yes, but they typically don't stalk a human for food like crocodiles are notorious for. I've had a couple gators come up at the shore and they're not after my legs, instead they just want the fish I caught.

40 years ago my cousins swam the Hillsborough River with little regard for gators because mostly they stayed away from people. If an alligator showed up they would get out but never harassed by the reptiles that I recall. Maybe there has been a time since then that they received little hunting pressure and grew in population and boldness. I'm not sure.

I had this same exact thing happen to me just the other day at a retention pond in my neighborhood . I watched this 5-6ft gator swim from across the pond and he just posted up on the shoreline right in front of me waiting to steal my fish . I’ve had other gators steal my fish , moccasins latch onto my fish and not let go , and I’ve had sand hill cranes gang up on me trying to steal my fish too . It’s rough sometimes being a bank fisherman down here , but the bass fishing is so good that it’s all worth it imo. I consider myself blessed to live in Florida where there’s bodies of water around every corner filled with big beautiful bass .

It's been DECADES for me, but I'll bet the fish haven't changed much: Tiny Torpedo, cast lengthwise along the bank, preferably where there are reeds along the shoreline. I learned to click the bail over BEFORE the lure hit the water, because they would often strike AS SOON AS it HIT the water. If THAT doesn't happen, just start giving it some short little twitches as you reel it in : )

What are some tips for getting good accuracy on a cast with a baitcasting reel and good distance without getting a backlash. I just started learning how to use a baitcaster and can only cast about 60 ft without backlashing. Anything would be helpful. Thanks!!
@martinmaddox5315
@martinmaddox5315 Жыл бұрын
Try first practicing with a casting plug or a heavy lure. Some very small lures and small baits are almost impossible to cast with a bait caster. After practice you will be able to cast bass size lures with more accuracy and father than a spinning reel. I assume you are applying light pressure, amount to let lure travel but not let spool outrun the line coming out, with more pressure of thumb as lure approaches the landing area.

Not that it lessens how scary it would be to fish there, but that is ABSOLUTELY an area where gators are fed. Watch the very end 1-2 seconds. There is a skinny wood bridge or dock that goes over the water- just wide enough to walk on, and a big metal bucket sitting there. It is just like you see at an actual gator shows (if you've never seen one think dolphin shows but rustic and without $ to have anything fancy). He also threw the fish to the right, where the bridge is. No one wants those gators to start coming out on land looking for their food. They want them to remain conditioned to getting their food from that spot in the water. Only question is, is it a regular "show" or Gatorland, or is it just a person who lives near this and feeds them for fun or to eventually eat them, etc. Big difference legally. No ill will to the poster, he never said he was out in the wild, he just didn't show the bridge intentionally either.

bugsta2012 gators mostly never go towards humans u less they’ve been fed by humans and don’t see them as a threat. I fish all the time and I’ll see gators 2/3 of the time. They will mostly want nothing to do with you. These gators must’ve been fed by humans and that’s most likely why they weren’t afraid.

Nice catch tho for real! I think it took longer to setup the camera than it was to catch that fish and then bounce from the area lol!

Interesting that the "aggressive lunge" is not actually shown on camera. The earlier approaches by gators in the water were not directed at the human. Beside being naturally curious, gators are attracted by motion and by ripples in the water, which they can home in on thanks to pressure sensors in their lower jaws. Moreover, gators learn from experience, so if this hole had been fished before (as one might suspect), these gators may well have learned that fish are available from that lure moving across the surface. (I have observed gators chasing fishing lures many times myself.) By no means does this video support the assertion in the title that a gator tried to eat a fisherman. Gators are normally wary of and avoid humans unless they have been fed (which, BTW, is illegal).

2:00: “i didn’t do nuthin’ to you!” Yeah well a) that fish didn’t do nuthin’ to you, fisherman. And b) in taking that fish, you’re taking the gator’s lunch. FloridaMan, as usual, ain’t the sharpest hook in the tackle box
