Well, I sure rate him high. I was born in '59, the same year his song El Paso came out. I started singing El Paso at about 4 years old. Started playing it on the guitar when I was 10 and I'm here pickin' and a strummin' along with Marty tonight. I never get tired of hearing his music.

Patricia, you are so right, this is when country music was true country, George and Allen got it right when they wrote murder on music row,and it showed just how pig headed recording company executives were and still are, they couldn't accept that this is the music the followers of country really wanted , thank goodness I have a great collection of this beautiful music to remind me of what we once had, and it's so good to have sites like this, cheers from Tasmania

My family went to Opryland in 1979 when I was a kid, and we saw Marty at the Opry (a different performance). He was the first real big name performer I ever saw in person (except for Roy Acuff earlier in the day). I'll never forget it. I assume this performance was probably close to that same time. Marty looked like the very picture of health---so slim and trim and energetic. And just a few years later, he would be gone. 😢

I use to dance at the opry and have stayed over many nights so we could watch this man preform after he raced and yes he would go over time many nights. The opry would sign off and go to the Earnest Tubb Record Shop program and Marty would keep singing for the crowd. The crowd could be dead all night but when Marty hit the stage they came alive as if you had lit a fire under them. So glad I have these memories.

I once read that he was at the Grand Old Opry one night when a huge thunder storm came along. They made an announcement that the roads had been closed and the audience could not leave until the authorities gave the OK. Marty stayed onstage after the show was supposed to be over and entertained the crowd for hours, until they gave the OK for them to leave. Don’t know if the story was true or not or if I got the details right, but it shows what kind of a person he was.

One of The Greatest!!!! I love him, have done for yesrs!!! RIP you wonderful great entertainer. His was the first country album I bought and I had to buy it through Ireland as you couldn't find any in the stores in England, Finally they started selling Some of Jim Reeves because one of his songs broke into our top 20.

Today's country is not country. Rock and Roll is dead. No Motown no Blues. Marty Robbins Cowboys Singer, From Arizona. And a Stock car driver! Dad played Steel guitar for him. This was country.

Saw him live at the GOO back in 1979 or 1980. He was last act and didn’t stop singing when the show went off the air. He went till way after 1:00 in the morning. Not a soul got up and left. I don’t go to the GOO now because I don’t want to to ruin that memory. This might have been that night.🤗

Had the privilege of seeing Marty Robbins several times at the Opry - great performer !!! They used to put him on last at the late performance of the Opry because he loved to entertain so much that he went on after the end of the opry while the radio program switched over to the Ernest Tubb record shop with performers there as well. Great memories. The best in country music

Marty has the best voice! He didn't sing through his nose like most Country stars did and still do. He, Patsy Cline, and several more had really great true tones, no nose. I really loved listening to them.

A rare combination of beautiful, warm voice and artistic talent for show to keep the audience excited, delighted and asking for more from Marty. What a contrast with his harsh unfortunate beginning as a young boy living in the Arizona desert. It might explain his sense of humor 😂 behind what in others would hsve sounded or looked overstrained. In Marty Robbins it comes out as a talent for show and the irony of the contrast alluded to above is part of what made him attractive to people watching his performances and finding in him a kind gentleman artist gifted for music and song. American popular music at its best, unmatched anywhere in the world. Thank you, dear Marty. John C.

Marty was one of the best entertainers in America history. He truly acted like he enjoyed his fans. He was truly fun to watch and listen to his great songs.. it is so bad we lost so many great 🎉entertainers so young. We truly had some great talent. Not happy with todays music. I enjoy listening on you tube to hear the oldies but goodies.
