How to Block an Email Address in Gmail

How to block an email address in Gmail? In this tutorial, I show you how to block emails from a specific email address in Gmail. This means you can stop getting emails from addresses that harass or spam your Gmail account. Blocking someone on Gmail is different than marking as spam because Gmail will automatically delete the emails. Follow the steps below to block any email address in Gmail:
1. Navigate to gmail.com in your web browser and login to your Gmail account.
2. From your Inbox, select the gear in the top right, then select See all settings.
3. In the top menu select Filters and Blocked Addresses.
4. Select Create a new filter.
5. In the field labeled From enter the email address you want to block, then select Create filter.
6. You now have 2 options for blocking emails in Gmail.
• Select Skip the Inbox to have the email automatically archived and not shown in the inbox.
• Select Delete it to have the email automatically deleted as soon as it's received.
7. Once you've made your selection, select Create filter.

I've been on Gmail for years, and I never knew how to do this. So thank you! Gmail should just simply have an option to permanently block and delete someone's emails. I mean without being so complicating that a KZbin tutorial is needed.

There is no such thing as blocking or deleting emails you can still see them. We all know we have to occasionally look in spam to check there's nothing important lurking there. You should be able to properly block.

That's not real blocking- you still get the bad email and it gets handled rather than bounced back to the sender. Bouncing it back is better because it automatically tells the sender that they're wasting their time. ...but thanks for confirming a weakness I suspected in some email services.

Thanks for giving valid usable instructions on how to Block or Spam email by adding to a blocking filter. I’ll as you, are you aware of any way to protect a sender or email so that it is not deleted in a general All Mail kind of selection but where you would need a second step to actually Delete it. When I just looked now I have thousands of emails that accumulate and I want to do a clean sweep except for a few friends that I want to keep. I wish there was a way to not just Label them but add Protection to prevent accidental deletion. Thanks again!
