It’s such an honor to see this legend play again. At his prime time you’d never know who’d reach the final after the quarter finals. Greg often did though. Such a great player.

Nice to see George Parker barking at that court attendant. You can learn a lot about someone by how they treat service staff.

He also goes on to push his way out of the door while they're entering at the end of a game, smacks his racket on the wall to get their attention. Plus he keeps arguing with the ref.

Parker just loves a moan doesn't he. His poor attitude and disrespect here towards the ref, the cleaning staff and the paying audience too is something I have come to expect of him in recent years. If his game was half as good as his moaning on court he'd be world number 1.

It really is so frustrating. He acts like a bratty entitled 4 year old throwing his toys out the cot and mistreating people. The PSA should defend the spirit of the sport and deal with all antics decisively by implementing reaching consequences in game and post game.

Great to see Gaultier play again!!! Parker is a great squash player who's route to the top is blocked by mental issues. He should put a bit more joy in this lovely game.

Good to see a retired Gaultier with little training on his legs having no issues making quick work of one of the most obnoxious players the sport has seen.

As a novice squash player I had the unique honor of playing 2 matches against Gregory Gaultier in early 2020 (pre-COVID). Our club hosted a clinic where he played with some of the members. Never stood a chance against him (obviously) but what I genuinely nice man. I would compare it to playing one-on-one with Michael Jordan or hitting drives with Tiger ... an unforgettable and fun experience.

Having said that, Greg Gaultier is still a fine world class squash player! He's had his run-ins with markers before but by comparison to Parker, Greg is a true statesman of squash.....something Parker NEVER will be........congratulations Greg....!!!

Good to see le Général likely as good as bevor his retirement without bandages. And it was a pleasure to see how he handles the bully. Parker playes an excelent squash. No question. Quick. Soft hands. Right shot to play. Accurate execution. Unfortunatelly he seems to be a bully. What a pitty.

Is James Willstrop in this tournament? At 38, he is only a year younger than Gaultier but still active on the tour and ranked around 25, not too far ahead of George Parker whom the General really owned. Would be an interesting match to see if their paths were to cross.

Even though Gaultier is an all time great of the game who would ooze class even if he was 80, that’s still quite a poor result for Parker. He shouldn’t be losing to a borderline middle age guy who has been retired for 2 years.
@bollmocks
@bollmocks Жыл бұрын
A 39 year old Gaultier who's been retired for 2 years is still better than Parker right now. That's all there is to it. Gaultier is squash legend level with 20+ years at the top of the pro tour under his belt, and was constantly playing other legends like Matthew, Shabana, Ashour, Shorbagy Sr., the list goes on spanning that 20 years. Parker doesn't have any of those things. I would call it less a bad result and more bad luck to be facing Gaultier in round 1 when he's fresh and good to go off the bat.

Agreed. This all starts with giving credits to an opponent for a winning shot. Its a mental turnaround to see points against you as an achiefment worth apreciating. So many players see point against them as their failure getting them into a mental downward spiral.

to be fair, George on the end of some poor decisions in the 2nd game. And there was no need to give a conduct stroke stright away. Benefit of doubt and conduct warning is generally the 1st port of call. Gregs tight drop was exactly the same as his, he had a point to make.

In the 2nd game there were 2 consecutive wrong decisions against Parker (31:17 and 31:35) when he was up 2 points. He should've won that game 11-7, but instead these got Gaultier back in that game, and they made Parker angry which caused him to rage and got a conduct stroke. Frankly I understand him. The match could've gone totally differently, but bad refereeing was a decisive factor again. This is the part that i don't like in competitive squash.
