FINALLY a Gauntlet arcade gameplay video that is before the so-called "food bug fix". Ends up being not just a skill game but an endurance test... SInce you layed 9 hours here I gotta give you respect! Back in the late 1980s there were only a few arcades nearby me that even had the game, one was open Saturdays 9am-6pm (most were 10am-530pm/6pm) so I would bike ride 30 minutes just to get there :) WARRIOR all the way because since magic sucked I would only use my potions to vaporize death therefore the maximum score potential (8k each time, yup most of regulars knew the cycle of scoring), and once I got Shot Power everything was single-shot-kill (and with Speed I would now run as fast as Elf's starting)... Also left the 3 "preferred" characters open for others to join in -- once after I started and built up 3 hours we had 3 others join and we all got to more than 20k health and just had a blast stunning each other later! And one really nice solo run I think I hit an evil score of around 6,666,000 in the end -- 15 minutes before closing time I still had tens of thousands of health so had to run circles through triple ghosts to finally die so I could enter my initials before they shut off the power :) #GoldenAge

Wow, after seeing this video and your post, I didn't know there were others that knew the intricacies of manipulating death scores and the bug where you get your score high enough, you get max food per level. The one time I got the food bug by getting my score to over 2 million, I ended up going for 4 hours with a final score at 4 million+ with the Valkrie. I was exhausted and gave up because I was being super sloppy and STILL gaining health. Did you know the secret to "?" food? Odds Five, Evens Seven. ;-)

Gauntlet was one of my favorite video games to play with growing up in the nineteen eighties! PS:I wish that it could be reinstated back into service so that both myself and some friends & family members could enjoy & relive the fun of playing the game back when it first came out!

I'm impressed you know about shooting death 5 times on level 7 to get the max 8000 points per potion. Good to see other pros play. I should do a run. Used to play all day back in the mid to late eighties on one credit. I have Gauntlet and Gauntlet 2 on MAME for the PC. Gauntlet 2 is so hard because it takes away the food so much and those dragons omg. I got to level 42 on Blue Elf back in the day. Gauntlet 1 you are just immortal. great vid

strategywiki.org/wiki/Gauntlet/Enemies#Death says "The full cycle is, starting from default: 1000, 2000, 1000, 4000, 2000, 6000, 8000, and then back to the default 1000. If you want to get the most points, shoot death exactly 6 times." ...but, potato, potato. Sure was frustrating some levels where you camped out after hearing the Thief arrive and one of your shots accidentally hit a roaming death and you had to start all over :p

めっちゃなつかしい。ゲーセンでこのゲームだけ音量設定が爆音でBGMがなくても存在感抜群だった。1クレ10円だったから数時間遊べた。またやりたいな。

It also didn't take me long to figure out that the valkyrie took the shortest time ever to reach gaining 10,000,000 points, and she went further into level 501. It's no surprise to me, of course.

I remember watching a video of someone hitting 100 million points in Chuzzle Zen (one with neverending game mode). He said, _"So what's the story? You just keep on matching the fuzzy balls on and on and on, endlessly. This game has no end. There is no end. You just keep on playing as far as the numbers go."_ Adjusting the quote for Gauntlet: _"So what's the story? You just keep on killing the ghosts and demons and grunts on and on and on, endlessly. This game has no end. There is no end. You just keep on playing as far as the numbers go."_ Edit: after I read some discussion forum about Gauntlet, the levels can show up to "Level9999" and when you go beyond that, it'll show as "LevelA000", "LevelA001", "LevelA002" and so on, eventually it starts using symbols in the thousands place. After almost forty years, nobody has reached that far either. It'll require immense endurance and patience.

My all time favorite game I love playing. I love playing with the Wizard because of his powerful magic 🪄✨!! His magic wipes out all the enemies on the screen!! I love playing with all the characters on there. I also love playing with the Valkyrie, because of her strong armor!! I just love all the characters on there. Still love this game, when I was a teenager, and also have the home consoles for this gem too.

* Secret Rooms : to get to a secret room, perform a secret trick on a level. Some of the secret tricks are : 1) Teleporting into the exit. 2) Pushing a movable wall into the exit 3) Keeping all the super shots 4) Not using invulnerability (this is almost always a good idea anyway) 5) Not touching a fake exit 6) Teleporting on top of Death and/or acid blobs 7) Not taking ANYTHING (the tick trick comes in handy here) * The hints it gives to the secret room don't necessarily apply to your current level, just as on "Gauntlet". The secret trick usually doesn't work, but it is always same for any given board. You're allowed one secret trick for every 15 levels or so.

Did you notice that Bill Keane would never show you any of his "Family Circus" comic strip child characters: Billy Jr., Dolly, Jeffy, and P.J. Keane grew up with their own wives/spouses, sons, and daughters? They don't even have a little girl who's their own cousin. What about their aunts and uncles? Even these characters are missing in the "Family Circus" storyline.

The Japanese comment says it's the Mega Drive (Genesis) version, which seems to be accurate. It is an amazing conversion though, they even remade the operator settings screen!

I didn't tell you that I, most previously, Google searched for the Q'Bert Q'Val costume? She sure, to certainly wasn't Q'Bert's date/girlfriend. The cartoon series has no adult themes woven into it. This is all about spiritual reality. She's supposed to be the Bravestarr Dark Child/Zardeth's enemy.

I listened and watched the entire Q'Bert cartoon series, which was based on the Gottlieb video game character. He didn't make too many episodes. Since he got off to a late start, such as 1982. Will it be the 41st year for Q'Bert to be coming to the silver screen?
