I’ve always lived way below my means in order to build savings for bad times. I’m just curious. Good luck to you! At least you quit and saved yourself some stressful days. You’re absolutely right about your truck and trailer…you turning them in early will not hurt them at all. Take care! Now, I think I’m gonna watch a few of your videos.

I have my truck about 2 1/2 years and it is paid for…. I promise you there are a bunch of lease operators and people who over paid for their truck turning theirs in right now.. I don’t know how people do it paying $800 a week or 1200 a week for a truck note.. I know for a fact I couldn’t do it with the rates how they are…. I will tell anybody do not buy a truck right now there will be a 99% fail rate for anyone buying a truck that does not have a big nest egg ($40-50k) put to the side… and honestly even without a truck note there’s not much more I can take, if the prices go up on few and the low rates keep going down I’ll park my shit or sell it….. and the best advice I can give anyone wanting to get in the business is open your LLC then open a business checking and savings, put your tax money in savings and pay your self $1000 a week or whatever out of your business account and leave the rest in there… I can’t tell you how many of my younger buddies jumped in trucking and balled out of control until they aint 🤦🏻♂️🤣
@daviddonaldson60692 жыл бұрын
My truck and trailer is paid off and I'm sitting at home a lot, last time I went out was 2 weeks ago. The rates are insulting. Not the time to get in, wait it out. Been out here 30+ years, and I learned quick, the party never last long in trucking. Drivers with the lowest debt win this game.
@pacman49372 жыл бұрын
Only driving your truck when rates are “high” means you didn’t get paid “high” rates because you have to count the days you made zero dollars. How do you think megas make money? They keep their trucks running 24/7.
@daviddonaldson60692 жыл бұрын
@@pacman4937 What are you talking about, I'm still running but not that much. You want keep hauling cheap freight and it works for you, more power to you.
@pacman49372 жыл бұрын
@@daviddonaldson6069 Let’s do some math. If you make $6000 in 15 days but there’s 30 days in the month, did you make $400 a day or $200 a day? You not running for half the month means those days you find the rate that you consider “high” you actually gave yourself “cheap” freight because you don’t get paid for sitting. I’m sure you won’t understand this concept so keep doing what you’re doing.
@pacman49372 жыл бұрын
@STOETIC You’re lucky. Short runs don’t usually work out like that. People think they can knock out 2-3 in a day and of course never do. The key is to find runs around 500-600 miles. Those usually give you good rates and can be knocked out in a day. Anything over that is usually too long, and the rates are lower.

SFI is really expensive. i leased my truck through Schneider 7 months after i got my CDL back in 2015. i was on the Schneider IC board throughout my entire lease and finished my lease in 3 and 1/2 years. i had a ot of money in my maintenance account, which covered my balloon payment. After i got my truck completely payed for i continued on the schneider ic board for another 2 years and this past year i started driving under my own authority. i struggled first starting out cause i didnt know it takes 3 weeks to get the authority active and on top of that almost all brokers require your authority to be between 30-90 days active before they will give you loads. So about the first 2 months or so of applying to get my authority has been the roughest time of my career. you dont know what you dont know. no one in this industry gives people real useful information. you pretty much have to cross unknown bridges and speed bumps as you get to them. But im happy with my Schneider Lease. Im happy with the rough start to having my own authority. trucking is one of those things where you just have to fight to stay alive long enough to get over the initial hardships. once you make it through the opening gauntlet, thats when the money starts coming. when you own your equipment free and clear and your authority is active long enough to get loads from any broker and then you start building relationships with brokers to the point where you dont need a load board anymore ppl call you with a load or you can just call your fav brokers and ask them what they got for you. i say this to all truckers, SURVIVE THE GAME LONG ENOUGH TO GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL. Hang in there gentlemen dont give up. if you fail, learn from it, go get yourself back together and come back and try again.

Schnider Trucks are good trucks. But when your starting out as a new owner operator and first time purchase they stick it to you because of the high default rate. Stay a company driver save your 💰 and get your own, because lease drivers have to pay the expenses like a owner operator, but a lease driver is a company driver that pays for expenses and what they tell you what the load pays is a lie " let's say a load pays 7,500 from the port's of New Jersey going to El Paso, they'll tell the lease driver that it paid the tractor $5000.00 they have cut you twice, which is against the law and on the books, this is why leasing a tractor is a very bad move,real talk 💯

The industry doesn't pay drivers enough. I won't work for any company that pays under 6 figures a year as a company driver. Negotiate your pay. Especially if you have accident and ticket free experience. We are in high demand so don't let a company short change you. I also would suggest hourly pay with OT after 40 hours. Easy to clear 100k . Anything under 100k is not worth you putting your life on the line out there everyday...

What a lot of O/O dont realize is that buying a truck securing a fix payment and not securing fix loads is backwards. They don’t teach this… First and foremost buying a truck without having loads locked in is like buying a wrench without a bolt or screw to turn. Most owner ops get into the trucking business on the wrong end first. They don’t teach this, you have to learn the hard way. You should already have your on loads(be your own broker) with locked in rates for the most part before getting a truck, PERIOD! O/O don’t make their own rates… think about it. But anyway big ups to you bro. Keep going.

Forgetting trucking for a minute, almost every business fails in the first 2-3 years. The reason being that most people are NOT meant to be business owners. Just because you can bake cookies doesn’t mean that you should own a cookie company. Most drivers should stay drivers. This video explains why he failed. He still doesn’t understand that it was HIM and that he doesn’t have the business mind needed. The comments cheering him on or blaming Biden also show how dumb those individuals are and why they shouldn’t own a business. They also don’t get it. The issue with trucking is that it’s very easy to start a trucking company with a truck. Your comment was probably one of the few on here that actually get it. Trucking is really a SALES business. You are selling storage space (your trailer). You are negotiating how much your space will be sold for. If you aren’t good at sales then stick to driving.
