I kept cracking up everytime Doubledome appeared and spoke (really awesome that Jess Harnell voiced him)!! I wish CN accepted this show. I think if I had to cast my vote in 2002 as I am now, I'd have gone with this instead of Maktar, which I didn't know until now that you also created. Another fun cartoon, but this has had more staying power with me.

Longhair and Doubledome was my personal favorite. But the original Maktar, Maktar the the Hickuloids was also pretty funny. The original concept involved Maktar invading the alien universe with a family of alien hicks. Unfortunately, the Hickuloids had to be cut due to time. The network would not allow an 11 minute short. The Hickuloids hit the cutting room floor.

Either way it sounds like a win could have seen Maktar truly take flight. A shame that Lowbrow/Megas XLR got the treatment it did after winning, that was another fun entry. Have you had any plans with Maktar like your graphic novel of Longhair and Doubledome?

I think so too, but you are right the network could not go to 11 due to the format of the competition, I picked Maktar to rule the day, sometimes I wish I had gone with the hicks, haha

Between this and good wheel hunting I'm surprised it never got picked up for more episodes. Great/funny writing, animation is great and stands out, voice acting is great and it's very memorable I remember being 10 watching the pilot and laughing like crazy. Glad I had a chance to see it again!

The animation is a bit different from its original episode with the wheel, the animation from that was odd but pretty cool, this ones good but it does remind me of the animation style of ace Ventura pet detective the animated series.

I actually am unsure. This pilot was produced overseas, we were producing two pilots that year and could not do it in house like Good Wheel Hunting. However, my guess would be cel, based upon the time frame, 2003 Digital was just coming in to production models.

No, I pitched several shows to CN. One was Maktar, a failed concept, that was conceived before Invader Zim, but was a very similar concept. Knock Knock Cartoons, my company, produced a pilot in 2002. We also pitch a show later called, "Fast Dumb, Bang, Go", that never got to pilot stage.
