Finley Calder was a better Lions Captain than big Gav. Though he was a great player.

Maybe sour grapes from Mr Arrogant carling, didn't come anywhere near test selection, let alone tour captain, and had an awful tour , and I'm English, don't think carling got the concept of 🦁 touring at the time

I am Scottish and like Will. He was a good player for England, and McGeechan was going to pick him over Hastings but the Welsh and Irish unions were not into that so he picked Gavin Hastings as a World Class player all the Home Unions would accept.

@@jaynedavis3655 As a scot the influence of the unions scuppered this tour.. too many Scots and not enough form English players. It was a shame. Carling by his own admission had a terrible tour but argues that his lack of form was not for lack of motivation on his part.
