I must be the luckiest viewer because I lived in Wales for years and live very close to Essex now so I know what each place is like and can really enjoy the nuances of both. My Welsh friend asked me 'Are they really like that in Essex?' and was gobsmacked when I said yes.

Ok..really not being facetious. I’m genuinely asking. I tried to watch it back in the day and then a couple of years later. Only an episode or two…and I just couldn’t get into it. Is it something you persevere with an a switch clicks? Because it’s so beloved and I REALLY want to join the Gavin and Stacy cult.

It's really not for everyone. I came to it during a really down period of my life and needed a comfort show with families and friends that seemed like they could be my own. It fit the bill perfectly and I still love it to this day.

i feel like, you have to grind through the first series the first time you watch. I found the first series cringe and not that funny when i first watched it, but once you start hitting series 2 and 3 you get into it. Then if you rewatch series 1 at a later date, it is way better second time round. Thats my opinion and experience anyway

Season 1 isn’t the best you have persist my favourite is season 3 and the Christmas special are amazing I love Christmas and massive family all getting together so there my favourite so excited for the last ever Christmas special

Just simply comes down to your sense of humour. It's ok if it isn't for you! For me, from the first scene or two, I was hooked, love the humour, love the writing, love the characters, particularly Nessa and Pam.
