Shooting in ETTL with flash means you set the aperture, shutter speed and ISO in Manual mode and the flash automatically adjusts it's power to suit... clever stuff :-)

if you use the flash mounted on your camera that produces flat light (very little contrast. you could try a reflector or a mirror if you need to really push some light but an off camera flash is the way to go. you can find very small flashes for $10 they are single power but the ones I have,, have a flash adjustment dial to get them to go off when its supose to (1st,2nd,3rd flash) if its too bright you can move it farther away.

Many reasons NOT to do it in camera... You may not like the sepia effect, there's no cobtrol over the effect but the big one is photo styles will generally only be seen in JPG and I'm RAW to the core :-)

Hi Gavin, that was a nice 15 min photo challenge. All i want to know is in one of your pictures you've edited it in photoshop and added a sepia tint. Why not use the sepia effect via the canon 60D while shooting instead? Is it 'coz of the caliber being better in PS?

it will not be any light from the on camera flash it only controls the speedlight. Yes it will go off but no power to show .. Also I think it is poss to measure the light and set power with a pre flash so it only triggers the speed light at time of taking the photo.

Hi there. Thanks for some great movies. I got a quite simple question, that I hope you are willing to answer. As you use the "pop up flas", I notis that it has none or very little output, just enough to tricker your speedlight. But what setting are you useing, how is the build in flash configurated? Regards Christian

hello Gavin. When you used the pop-up flash to trigger the speedlight, won't the pop-up flash fires flash at the same time, hence blowing the picture out?? What did you do to prevent that?

Just a thought Gav - did you have permission from the owners to handle and rearrange their stock? I imagine some store owners would not be too happy with this unless you have asked first.... as photographers we have to be very careful in where we shoot and what we shoot, unfortunately......
