Any idea if there was any way to update the screen, or did you just have to hope the stations never changed? Did it show the frequency (or wavelength?) anywhere, or just the call signs?

Since they only used this for a couple of years I don't think they thought of screen updates. You'd have to find an old Montgomery Ward catalog from 1938 and see if different film drums with different stations could be ordered. The frequency is at the very bottom of the screen in a much smaller font than the call signs.
