I think I was similar to you at your age. I’m an outdoorsman who loves trout fishing and gardening. I wasn’t into hookups and was not crazy about what I found in the dating scene. Now I’m 57 and life has passed me by. The last five years I’ve been taking care of my parents. My dad died 3 years ago after lingering around for two years after a terrible stroke. Now I’m taking care and living with my mom. Dad was always my best friend and fishing partner. I haven’t had the heart to go fishing since he’s been gone. Love skipped right over me. I’m not about to settle now for someone less than what I could have attracted when I was younger. I just try to be a good person and enjoy the things I like. If I outlast mom, I intend to move to southern West Virginia and just enjoy the seasons (esp. winter) and lots of stream trout fishing in the days I have left. Good luck to you.

You'd be surprised who'd be interested in 57-year-old you, provided you're a good person, have a sense of humor, and are in reasonably good shape. And I don't mean kids with daddy issues; I mean men in your own age group, give or take. Your idea about settling can only hold you back.

Also in the gay community we need to work on not minimizing everything to JUST physical attraction, I think a lot of times we claim to be romantic but we will only be romantic with “pretty people” I get it because I want someone to look good with me but I have def open my heart to guys who looked pretty average

I was in a relationship with a young man who was a "pretty boy" but that's all it was just superficial love. A couple of years after we broke up I met a much older man and what started as a friendship developed into love. We've been together now for 5 years living together for the past year and a half. I'm twenty nine he's fifty seven. We have an unbelievable relationship together I thank my lucky stars each day we found each other. Good luck

Here 65. That’s what happened to me at 21. Had seen him already couple of times thinking: So not …. Then he started ‘working in me’. Eventually i moved continent twice for and with him. No, we didn’t stay together. 21 Year old issues. Stayed the closest friends ever. Across ocean and sea. He died 30 years ago but had he not i’m 90% sure we would have teamed up together again. We talked about that already in our thirties but living in different countries, careers and legal status in those days being an issue, see how important same sex marriage is, that did not materialize. Now i miss him so. Love exists. And it is beautiful.

If you have a "type" list, it will get in your way of experiencing a wonderful person. Gays experience a lot of pressure to fit a norm, especially if you subscribe to the hype on the web. Be aware of it, and know that it's not the "real world", just follow your heart.

70 form Kansas, I had someone in my life. We met in school when we were both 14 in a class then lost touch till highschool then he pursued me at 16 we stayed together for 15 years. Then on Thanksgiving day after spending the day with family he said he wanted to start dating woman, walked away found some women got married then showed up one day said he wanted to start seeing me again on the side as well. Long story short I haven't seen or talked to him in 34 years. Never really found anyone I felt the same about, now pushing 70 alone.💔

Living and growing up In the upper half of Alabama while being a semi-closeted gay man is extremely lonely. Its like im the only one of my kind, 24/7-365. Im not feminine,i have never been a part of the hookup scene. My masculine hobbies and "str8 camoflage" pretty much put me in isolation unlike those who "cant hide it", truly, i am envious of them. If i couldnt hide "being gay", id just embrace it an move on with my life. I truly want to come out, but with me and my non-existent partner to back each other up. Im 21 y/o man now. Healthy and eager I *cant* wake up one day as a 51 y/o man, doomed and destined on the path I never had. I *cant* wake up and realise my life has passed me by Im determined break out of the closet, as well as carry on my life goals aside from finding a partner. Im glad you made this video because it makes me hopeful that there's a chance of someone like me and who wants to live a life of love and beauty in a surrounding world thats void of it. I have a sense of hope because ive now seen I'm not the only one of my kind. Thank you

I just want to say that from an older man's perspective on this topic, it doesn't get easier to live life as a single man. I have had a few short-term relationships, but they all ended due to the guys being substance abusers or just plain not interested in coming out. I want to have someone in my life, but I guess some people aren't lucky in love.

I can very much relate. I grerw up in rural NY as well, a small town south of Rochester. It definitely was not easy trying to find the type of person I wanted to find. I want someone who is not into the bar or hookup scene, someone who is proud of who they are, has goals and dreams, and wants a real relationship, someone to settle down and build a life with. It was simply impossible to find in the small town setting. I have since moved to a larger metropolitan area in southwest Florida (850,000 people), and still have a difficult time finding the qualities I want. I have come to the conclusion what I want simply does not align with the mindset of the majority of the gay community.

Hey Jon, still interested in different opinions? I “disagree” with your question “should I adapt to the modern world”. You *should* do what *you* want, not what others expect from you, period. Don't care if others of your age are expected to have a ring on the finger or kids - it's your life, your decision, your path, and you do it in your and only your pace. Please keep that in mind because its super important! Also regarding the “modern world”: I think there was always a hookup culture, it just wasn't that apparent because it was frowned upon. People always had desires and sexual urges, I think the difference of our “modern times” is just that it's now okay to openly speak about it. This is the first video of you I watched, and it being three years old I'm eager to see how you do nowadays! Also I think you are cute 😘

Hi Jon.. There is a lot I have to say about this. Sadly as long as there is shame there will be guys that can only handle hooking up. In fact they get addicted to that and they can’t get past it to see that there is more to be had. I want to encourage you to stick to what you truly want. Do not let these guys put out your fire. Just develop a really good filter and screening ability. I can tell you that it is absolutely the same everywhere BUT… there ARE exceptions. If there is you, there are others. I hope you find that.

When I travel back to Texas to visit gay friends, I'm shocked at how closeted they live as gay married couples. Many Texas gay couples married in N.Y. because they figured gay marriage would never happen in Texas. Their reasons for doing so were because of their joint land holdings and investments, and they felt they needed the kind of protection only a marriage license would allow. I'm really glad that I don't live in Texas.

@@gordon7462 1. What "wrong impression"? KZbin isn't a dating site..and he never said "Contact me if you want to date me!". Which would be fine if he did..but he didn't. He is just talking about his life at the time the video was made. Which is what everyone on KZbin does. It was YOU who assumed this video was a dating ad. KZbin is filled to the brim with videos showing people at different stages in their lives and years apart. And those videos are still important and valuable. 2. He should leave this video up because it is a learning tool for rural gay people who struggle way more than gay people in cities or suburbs to find other gay people for friendship and dating. 3. He is exploring his feelings and what society expects of people..and the conflicts that can create. That is another learning tool for other young gay people who may be dealing with the same yet don't have the support structure he has. 4. Many young gay rural people commit suicide every year because they feel so alone and isolated and don't have any love and support from family or friends. He is teaching them that it's ok to be different and to stay true to what you feel in your heart. 5. You have NO RIGHT to ask ANYONE to take down a video just because you don't like it. What you feel or think or assume is YOUR business..not mine..not his..not anyone else's. Do what you want with YOUR life..but don't tell others what to do with theirs. People are going to get the "wrong impression" about many things. So what? Like RuPaul says: "Unless they paying your bills..pay them bitches no mind!" Keep on keeping on, Jon! 😉

I think you’re thinking too much about it. I also believe it’s possible that you’ll never find a man you want to be with who, in turn, wants to be with you. There are some serious geographical obstacles (number of men in your area). There are social and psychological obstacles (falling for closeted men) that go along with that. But…. I just celebrated a one year anniversary two days ago. I was either single, hopelessly in love with a guy who’s worst fear was people finding out about us, or worse, hopelessly in love with someone straight who never could love me regardless for 17 YEARS before this. I always knew I’d be a good boyfriend, but just never had the chance excluding some who just weren’t my type or acted in ways I didn’t understand and couldn’t help them with, or even tolerate. As time went on I accepted my fate of dying alone, and would sleep with one or two different guys one or two times a year. Every time i put myself out there and strived for something beyond that it was difficult and painful. Then, just a little over a year ago, it became easy. I still don’t understand it. I met someone who i get along with. Someone who’s my type. Someone I’ve been glad to see every time he walks in the door, and someone who’s call i have missed, but never ignored. I tell you all this for one reason, and it’s not to rub it in your face. Don’t try too hard. It will be easy when it’s right. Also, I’M GODDAMN SURE that you will find someone. You have goals for a successful life, find joy in simple things that others will appreciate (what kind of dipshit wouldn’t go for a Christmas light car ride with their boyfriend), and you’re adorable. Perfect mix of handsome/rugged/mature but still has boyish wonder. You’ll be fine. He’s out there and there are several just as good if you don’t cross paths. Just don’t waste time or feelings on anyone who doesn’t deserve them in the meantime. Of course, have sex if you want. Have sex with guys you can’t stand and want to leave immediately after if you want. You don’t have to “wait” for the man you want. You’ll be there when he does show up though. Good luck bubby. Hope you find each other fast.

Cute and sweet, I wish I had known him earlier in my life. I’m from rural Tennessee and I can relate to him unfortunately my first relationship was with a man who was 16 years older than me, I thought my chances were limited, I didn’t think there were just 5 gays in the world.
@danaknighte6820 Жыл бұрын
There’s just one more thing I would like to add to my comment. Most gay me are always on the look out for something better, I think most of us can agree on that. Many years ago I met these two beautiful successful men who to me seemed to have it all, I cried because I was envious of them, I wanted what they had. Soon after, I found out that one of them left the other for another man. Wow, that shocked me, I thought to myself, “there was a better man”? If you do find someone close to your age that you can love and make a happy life together, keep him, make it work. And never let anyone tell you age doesn’t matter because it does!!! Besides myself, I’ve seen many happy people hurt because when the older spouse starts seeing you as maybe not so new anymore, they will find someone newer and start all over again. I could write you a book on that subject alone. Hugs to you.

You could have a king's kingdom and all his wealth if you could figure out how to make someone be attracted to you or to anybody. I was born and raised in a small town and I am still shocked (I'm 72) how many of the straight people found their mate in the same small town!! Did they just settle??? I'm quite aware with the tiny of gay people (3% according to the CDC) - Which is why so many gay people head to the cities. Just a matter of demographics. Anyway, good luck. It can happen any time.

Brooo, you are cute af. in a different life time you would be my match 100%..i have been engaged to my other half for like 7 years, been together for 12 years and i am 38.. don't think about age and when you should or shouldn't settle down...

Unfortunately I think it's unlikely to find a real mate in rural America. My advice would be to move or at least travel...you can always come back when you're ready but to catch fish you have to go to where they are.

There's tons of men in rural America. The good men you can find. I'd rather choose someone with similar morals and rural culture.

@@GAYRURALGUY I think that depends on where you are. I am merely stating based on my own experience. Moved from a town of 400 to a city of millions and met the dream of my life for bond that will never be broken.. (many years now).

Dont change and be like the masses. Dont sell yourself short. Make your own path and that will make you unique and make guys turn to you. You will be what they cant find. Cute guys... lol... cute guys can get laid anytime and anyplace and they tend to love themselves. find the right guy. Remember two things. 1. The best your relationship is going to be is when your dating... so if there are any issues then, they will be magnified when you commit 2. It doesnt start out as LOVE it starts out as lust. But most guys think they have fallen in love. When the lust dies they think they have fallen out of love. It starts as lust and when that dies and it will, then the work starts and you will then learn about and fall in love.

I love too meet a attractive country boy like you. True attractiveness comes from the heart, and the love you share. Physical attractiveness is only skin deep. As we get older our bodies change. " Young pretty boys" only live day too day. Never giving any thought of the future. They are mostly stuck on themselves.

You SHOULD settle down with one man because you deserve it. I don't have the right to suggest, but I'm thinking you might enjoy the city for a short time. You might meet more guys and actually find one who would move back to the country with you.
