The show actually didn't mince words they were gay. You have to remember when Sesame Street came out they couldn't actually be open.. it got popular popular in the 70s when the gay rights were running rampant. But it was also a time when people were trying to oppress gay rights. So when this was going on one of the devs from the later days was just getting in to Sesame Street and Jim Henson and that dude wanted to make a show where they could just be as you know creative as they wanted to make their characters gay as they want it as long as it's kind of flew into the radar hence the Muppet Show. LOL good show I remember it was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. Looking back it was a lot more shameless than I thought it was. But I think that's probably the charm.. but they could have an openly gay couple just you know not queer coated. Every now and again Richard the gay Dev would plug in things like Kermit talking to one of those little old men that heckled them all the time and the dude said something about being dating somebody blah blah blah and he was all like if the girl's name, and he says no and he then he gives a guy's name he corrected by saying it was the guy. That made it interesting. ... the fact that Beaker and Bunsen loved each other and that's all little kid me knew ..just like miss piggy and Kermit loved each other and that's the point. That's what they wanted to do on Sesame Street but weren't able to because of the censorship. So when they got the muffets they said fuck it we'll l do what we want.
