I listened to this over and over so many times when I was in middle school, I used to obsess over it because it was the only thing that brought me any peace to the point it was scribbled into my journal so many times to remind myself that I'm not supposed to give up so easily. I'm an adult now and a confident bisexual but my dad still has no idea and is the most likely to judge

This performance brings awareness to the important issue of suicide within the gay community. The poets explain how society is the actual killer of these victims. A line in the poem read, “cause of death should not be labeled a suicide but yet a homicide.” Christians screaming abomination in one ear while homophobes are screaming horrible slurs I the other. Specifically focusing on religion, the poets reassure the audience that this higher being that seems to be prevalent in the law system of America focuses on love instead of hate.

Will you guys relax with the need to defend your faith for two seconds? Like we get it. God loves all but that’s not the point of the of this. This isn’t about that. That’s not the point of the poem. The point of the poem is that kids are killing thems because people are intolerant of their sexuality. People DIED because they were told they weren’t good enough to be alive.

This truly made me tear up because it's a shame that people get so harshly ridiculed for being different that they come to the conclusion that the only way of being happy is by ending the silence of not only harsh words but ending the soft normal beat of their heart. We should not be finding a way to divide ourselves we should be finding a way to come together as a whole because we are all brothers and sisters in God's eyes. I am not gay but I still support being who YOU WANT TO BE.

lmfao because it almost never happens. Specially on this century Plus if you were to hear about that it would be trough the news and it'd just raise homophobia and give homophobes one more excuse to hate on us
@sarmadasco21007 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you don'y hear about it because it rarely happens, if ever. What an absurd comment. You apparently do not get out that often or are familiar with the gay community. Most gay people have suffered in one way or another...or in many ways, for being gay. For being born gay. So, for a gay couple to turn around and condemn their child for being straight would be unknown to a gay couple. When a gay couple adopts or hires a surrogate or asks a friend to donate and carry their child for them, they are very aware that he child will come into this world as nature intended it to. Therefore, if their child is gay, straight, trans, bi...or has Downs, or some other genetic "defect", it is accepted. Period. I say this as a gay father of a straight son of 17. I would not be disappointed had he been born gay, but I am very happy he was born gay as no parent, at least we feel this way, would never want our child to go through what we went through when we were younger. Bullying, emotional bullying in my case. I may have survived it and overcome it but it has left its scars which shall remain forever. No loving parent would want their child to repeat the suffering he or she experienced. It might be better now then it was in the 80's, but the hate and cruelty still exist. Your comment is absurdly comic. Something I would see on Saturday Night Live.......as a joke. May I suggest your doing some reading about children of gay couples or on youtube, there are straight kids who discuss what it is like having gay parents. Your questions saddens me.

No one is better than the other. Before you condemn others with bible quotes, remember what Jesus said in John 8:7, "He that is without sin among you, let him be the first to cast a stone." "Love one another as I have loved you." Stop arguing the bible in terms of hate and learn to love one another. My God is love and through Him, we are to love one another. Do not condemn others, because there is only one perfect man to have walked this earth and even he forgave. He re-wrote the laws in terms of love. Sincerely, A devote Catholic
@sarmadasco21007 жыл бұрын
Why? Please expand. All she is doing is quoting the New Testament and condensing in brief what the Bible says, in general. Ms. Applegate, stop throwing stones as you sound not only juvenile but idiotic. BTW....who is your god, if you have one? Just wondering. Yes, I, too, threw stones, at you.....I sinned. I confess it. I don't think that He or She it It will be to upset with me.

Ary Gasca if only the church of Latter Day Saints was so open minded... I liked a guy who was Mormon and he admited to me he was bi. I later found out that he didn't admit that to anyone else, and in my friends words not mine said "he must have really liked you." But you know, some things aren't meant to be. It's just been crushing my soul for the past year and half to been denied our love because of his church. But it's understandable. With his family being non accepting towards queer people, him going to byu and all the years of what these poets said, bible bashing, I understand why things like this happen. But the funny thing is they don't know the countless hours I spent awake, the hours of therapy sessions I've gone through, the dozens of pills I've tried to work around what was brought to light ; depression, anxiety, ocd... he stopped all of that, he calmed my mind in a way that nothing else could. But now all I've fanticised of for months and months is killing myself. Pills? I could try. Hanging? I was found out having one on my person, and it's hard to find a spot in my house with one. The most promising way, via firearm? In my dreams. As soon as my noose was found, I've been kept an eye on for handling guns. And for good reason. I know if I ever were at a shooting range or just handled a loaded gun, I wouldn't hesitate to reunite myself with darkness, a life much better than this, awaiting a different plane of existence where my love and I could finally be together. Funny how such a traumatic experience could change me from a narrow minded, atheistic point of view to one of just wishing there really is a life after death, maybe even the one described in the Book of Mormon, because I know that my death approaches, and I welcome it with open arms.

This is a very sad, and unfortunately very true poem. We people of the LGBT community are forced to develop a thicker skin than everybody else, simply because the amount of crap we take for simply being ourselves will pull us under if we can't learn to handle it. I'm unbelievably thankful to the amazing people I've met in my life, who have supported me through all I've been through... If not for them, I would've taken my own life by now - which is something no 14-year-old should be able to say.

I am a very strong Pentecostal Christian and my sister is a lesbian. Why i love her? Because Christians need to love people. That's what we should be doing best. Yes i believe it is a sin but i also believe love is equal. And that sin can be forgiven. God loves EVERYBODY. God may have made my sister gay. It's the people's fault for the hate. Not God's.
@ascotter2 жыл бұрын
This is a very convoluted statement. You call it a sin but say God made her do it. So basically, your sister is gay and that's totally fine. No sin bullshit. Because that's what it is.

A devious person , a liar is also an abomination to God if you read it in the book of Proverbs. So quit just trying to throw one thing out there. All sin is equal sin is sin baby. And who are we to judge, all we can do is show our love and support for each other instead of running them away and causing them to hurt theirselves because they feel that they are bringing shame to their families. If their going to change than let them change on their own term and continue to pray for them.
