A fascinating aspect of Ragas is that they evoke varied emotions like warmth, tenderness, happiness, and devotion that can vary widely among different individuals. They elicit a distinctly unique feeling within the same person at different times.
Yadukula Kambodhi is one raga that has resonated with me since the time I started learning music. Whenever I sing a kriti, or an alapana in Yadukula Kambodhi, I feel deeply connected with the spiritual universe, transporting me into inner tranquility and serenity. Its richly nuanced layers and intricacies reveal its beauty and charm subtly and unexpectedly during practice and performances. I always feel a sense of peace
and stillness permeating me and providing a sacred space for reflection and self-discovery.
Yadukula Kambodhi has a special place in my heart evoking cherished memories and emotions.
There are many well-known compositions in Yadukula Kambodi including the highly popular Kaalai thookki by Marimutha Pillai, Divakara tanujam by Dikshithar, Hecharikaga rama by Tyagabrahmam. Above all, the jewel in the crown is the Kamakshi Swarajathi by Shyama Sastrigal. I had the wonderful opportunity of essaying the role of Shyama Sastri'swife in the Musical Play " Trinity" by Madras Players where I sang this masterpiece.
Here is the lyrics to one of the songs sung in this episode.
