Great lecture, really enjoyed it! Spivak is really funny, she marries a foreigner, settles abroad, interprets all European texts and calls herself the spokesperson of the subaltern 🤣

@@rajarshibagchi4664 please read her works critiquing Eurocentrism and authentication of indigenous voices as being impossible to be understood from the outside. Then look at her origins and use your common sense to connect the dots. One need not quote everything directly to imply a point.

@Ayush Sen she never "claimed" to be, that was the point of the entire discussion above. I have heard the lectures you mentioned and much more before. I suggest you check out her body of works on translation esp regarding Bengali and consider the oxymoronic interloper when applied to her authoritative statements regarding the same. Also, read about her life and some things she did in the name of essentialism like supporting a sex offender because of her gender.

@Ayush Sen actually my critique is based on the fact that she gives opinions from an Indianist perspective (even selling translations with that logic) without addressing her own pitfall in the same. I don't have a problem with her authoritative opinions at all, rather her inconsistent basis of being that authority. Now about the digression- i don't think it is. She does the same for intersectional feminism and uses 'essentialism' to cover it up when asked about the same authoritative stance. This connects the Ronell case. I am glad we agree on antipathy towards Spivak. But i quite like Zizek, and Butler too, (minus her deconstructive stance). I think i have made my point clear. We can agree to disagree on this if you still feel that way.
