Have watched the whole of this glorious family from reunion to final fledges and departures. I never seen this bird behaviour before in such close-up. My greatest joy was to see how gentle this wonderful birds, with their sharp hooked beaks and talons were so gentle with the chicks in feeding them, and tip-toeing around their tiny bodies with their talons carefully folded up. Nature at its finest and a true life-safer in this dreadful year. Thank you so much Geemeff.

Thank you Geemeff so much for this amazing insight into the lives of Osprey. It has given me so much pleasure and many exciting incidents since I first found you at beginning of lockdown. I have learned so much and I feel emotionally involved with these beautiful birds now. I have to admit that if I ever was having a long , and possibly tedious phone call, I would put You Tube on and watch the birds whilst making appropriate sounds to the person on the other end.

18th September 2020: Thank you everybody for your lovely comments, I've given you all a thumbs up! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video - Aila & Louis provided some magic moments for us this year, made Covid 19 lockdown a bit more bearable. Some of us had more to endure than others so it's both heartening and touching to read your comments that my clips of our lovely feathered family made things a little easier for you too. Aila & Louis had a very successful season, raising all three Osplets to fledge and depart on migration so there were a lot of highlights to cover. It was a tough job choosing what to leave out, and I'm really pleased you enjoyed the final version. The livestream will shut off on the 21st and the camera will be taken down for maintenance - and the nest tree defences looked at to prevent any Pine Marten visits while our family is in residence! So look out for more videos next April 2021 when the camera goes live and Aila & Louis return to do it all again, they'll be posted here on my channel. Meantime happy flying Aila & Louis and Doddie, Vera & Captain, and my very best wishes to all of you who took the time to watch and leave a comment...

Was amazing to watch this pair Aila and Louis from re-unite to the fledging of their babies. Both did a wonderful job as all three hatchlings all survived. I know it is nature when the one sibling attacks the other to try and off them , however it looks like of like siblings how they roughhouse together especially boys lol . Was so happy to see all three chicks fully fledge in the end . Thank you for the video .

Gosh, so bittersweet watching this excellent compilation, Geemeff: I 'left the nest' early last August, as I couldn't cope with the hanging on until it was finally apparent all five of our osprey family had headed south (all the uncertainty!): and I have refrained from watching your edited highlights from last season until now, with the webcam on the point of closure. Thank you so much for this, and for all the brilliant footage you've cobbled together so perfectly, deliciously enhanced by your choice of classical accompaniments. I have ADHD (and am likely autistic; awaiting assessment) and watching these beauties last year, with their many antics - both touching and hilarious - brought me calm and stimulation, both much-needed, in equal measure. Thank you for keeping me sane! Here's wishing great success for the rest of the season to Louis and partner, to all other ospreys far and wide, and to the WT team and webcam community whom I hope to 'meet up' with again in 2022. Stay safe! :)

I have a question? Do owls and hawks watch the nests then when the chicks are grown eat them or do they find these nests by chance? It seems they are in the open for any predator to find. From the videos I have seen can do little to fight a predator off.
@GeemeffGeemeff3 жыл бұрын
Ospreys prefer to nest in the open, not in the trees - easier to fly on and off. Other species in the area know who's sharing their territory, and an Osprey nest I watch in Latvia has predatory Goshawks nearby who seem to regard the nest as their larder. The Latvian Osprey pair lose all their chicks most years, and the Goshawks only seem to take them when they are big enough to be close to fledging. Similarly with a couple of nests in the US where Great Horned Owls take older chicks and even the adults sometimes. My experience is limited but there does seem to be a pattern, in my opinion.
