the problem is not really the population and their mindset (Israel). I believe both sides are screwed up. Israelis cannot empathize with Arabs they harm and Palestinians can't empathize with Israelis they harm. However, even if populations on both sides take accountability for the terrible shit they've done to each other (I accept the idea that its more one sided that Israel is doing terrible things), it doesn't stop the conflict because its about resources. Israel needs West Bank water, Gaza natural gas, security positions, land to live, and so forth. The land is tiny and they need it for themselves, and that is why this all continues, an existential desire for land. The Palestinians as well have a similar desire. They cannot live indefinitely squeezed in between Egypt, Jordan, and Israel with shifting, unstable borders and occupation, so their actions come from a desire to see some kind of stability on their own side. I believe these things are only sorted out slowly through the passage of time, the development of technologies, and economic partnership. People need to start working together again, the sooner they can do this, the sooner the region can be peaceful
