Stevie G is the main man at Ibrox now. I can imagine Gaza is loved up there but Stevie G must be on a different stratosphere. Liverpool’s gift to the blue half of Glasgow, funnily enough the hoops gave us King Kenny. Strange old world we live in. YNWA.

@@RR-rf4eo Nowadays, absolutely. The standard is generally pretty poor in Scotland - massive gulf to the EPL. However, that particular Rangers team would have competed at the top-end of the EPL at that time, before the influx of money from TV and mega-rich owners in England. Beat Leeds home and away and had players at a similar level to the top English clubs.

It must have been pure comedy in Rangers dressing room in the late 1980s and 90s. McCoist, Ferguson, Durrant, Gazza etc. I watched an interview with the late Ray Wilkins who was at Ibrox for a couple of seasons. He loved going to training for the banter alone. Must say also that Gazza was one of the most talented players to play for us. When he was happy he was unplayable, and he loved Glasgow.

I was on the security team at Bradford city & didn't know any of the players being a Newcastle fan. On my first day there I found Stuart Mccall & Steven Hendry inside one of the stands, they insisted they were players & I said likely story. I thought they were fans who had sneaked into the stadium so threw them out of the ground. It was only later pitchside when they ran out onto the pitch I found out who they were. They used to take the piss out of me after that but one day took me into the dressing room & got all the players to sign a program dedicated to me. I still have it. They were a great bunch of lads.

If you dont live the life off the pitch and booze too much you start to decline badly as a player at 27 to 28 years old. Gazza is the perfect example of that. By the time he was at Boro he was unrecognisable from the player that played for Spurs or Lazio.
@grantmcphee5149
@grantmcphee5149 3 жыл бұрын
Booze and lack of sleep definitely increases the risk of injury. Nearly all modern players agree that you can't be reckless off the pitch and play 50+ games a season no matter how young you are. Gazza's 2 major knee injuries finished him as one of the world's best. He was still a player who could pull something special out of the bag (ie the Euro 96 goal) but before that he could power past players with a burst of acceleration. Supposedly he was on the verge of an England recall n 98-99 but then got injured and that was it, his mental health never fully recovered. It seems he had stability at Rangers.
