I'm 33, I remember Gazza in Italia 90, and Euro 96, I don't care what he's done off the pitch, he's the best player England have had in my lifetime. Take care Gazza, my generation fucking love you.
@John-tz2tx9 жыл бұрын
Yes, he was better than any England player then and better than any now, he just cruised past players, England have never had anyone like that, delighted he played for my team. Rangers
@brianlaudrupchannel8 жыл бұрын
+BS15RED Do you think Rangers was a highlight of his career?
@John-tz2tx8 жыл бұрын
+billyblackburn87 It was, he was at his best at Rangers, but for injury we wouldn't have got him, but he got his form back, remember the stormer he played when England beat Holland at Euro 96?
@brianlaudrupchannel8 жыл бұрын
John Scott i think he was still at his best at Rangers otherwise he wouldnt be able to perform at euro 96

I knew Gazza when I was a young man between the ages of 14 and 22 he was a quiet lad never kicked around on the streets to much was always at football training . Back then nobody called him Gazza that was an invention of the press years later when he started to come to their attention in the very early part of his career. He was known as Gasa by eveyone and called Gasa by everyone ..I remember his first "free car " sponsored by some dealership when he was in the reserve team for Newcastle it was a shitty brown coloured Renault 5 , he was dead chuffed pulled over at a junction when he saw me behind him in my equally shitty ford fiesta and jumped out and shouted " like the car ? , I just got it " I said I didnt know you had passed your test and he replied "I haven't laughed that naughty laugh of his jumped in and drove off... he always was a genuine lad and character . I can't claim to be mates with him or nothing he was a few years younger than me and we lived on the same estate in Dunston way back when ...but I wish him peace and happiness , he deserves a happy life and good health because he is one of the good people out there in the world (football aside ) I really hopes he beats his demons and alcohol and lives a happy life without the pain that is so well documented by the press...good luck Gasa and best wishes from an aquaintance of 30+ years ago ....

After the Madchester thing really kicked off, by '89/ '90 guys just weren't dying or bleaching their hair anymore. It had died a death. If anyone can remember that era, you'll see my point. When Gascoine came to Glasgow- the bleach came back in, then the dye.

You obviously only started following football about 5 years ago then and are totally blinded by the modern day game. Rangers wer huge back then and you could see how is reaction and wot he said wen told of rangers wanting him. A host of clubs in the premier league wanted GAZZA from lazio and he choose rangers ya tit, we had the money and champions league football then to match anyone in England.
@fancypantsuk8 жыл бұрын
David Smith huge? In what form? He went to rangers for one reason. Easy life style, easy money. easy league. He looked like maradona in scotland. In england he would of looked like madonna. Because he was wey past his sell by date. He could of been the greatest english midfielder ever. And for the record i'm 43 n i seen gazza in the 90 world cup i was 18 then n thought this is the greatest english player ever he's gonna win us the world cup. Alcohol fucked him up. He needed one man to make him the greatest Sir alex ferguson n he decided to go to spurs instead. That sadly was his down fall..
@GlentoranRangers16908 жыл бұрын
Rangers and Celtic have always been huge clubs, in terms of fanbase, history, tradition etc, I bet you can't name me 5 bigger clubs to come out of British football than rangers, please don't think from the last 10 years. In the late 80 early 90s, financially and commercially rangers wer the biggest club in Britain fact. Well in demand and bringing more money in as a club than anyone in British football. Then sky came along and pumped billions into ur new formed premier league and all the best foreign players followed suit. Back even further between 61 and 72 both old firm clubs played in at least 4 European finals winning 2 of them and a few European cup semi finals. Not bad from a small city and country, producing 2 clubs that's known all over the world with fanbase over the world to match it.

Hell of a player back then, but the only time I ever saw him in the flesh though was when my team Wrexham beat Middlesborough in the FA Cup in 99/00. Gazza was washed up by then and seemed more interested in waving to the crowd than playing.

I've got a lot of sympathy for Gazza inasmuch as I think the seeds of a lot of the damage were sown post Italia '90 with the whole "Gazzamania" thing and the British press and media doing what they do best,putting people on pedestals and then doing everything in their power to knock them off etc But I can't have sympathy for the injury that fucked him in the '91 cup final.He should have been sent off for his first "challenge" but the one that injured him could just have easily shattered Gary Charles' leg and ended his career....and nobody would still be talking about that 24 years later if it had happened that way! Just goes to show,he was already coming apart just a year after Italy and he was never the player that he had,could and should have been thereafter.

Rangers will be back!. they are just going through the healing process. FFS their lucky there arent dead forever. Still Rangers and still a massive club. Celtic play in a mediocre league and win every year WTF is the point of that. Rangers have to make it more of a challenge or scottish football will die.
