GBA SP Won't Charge - Easy Fix

This quick fix was inspired by philipeafroboy1 who commented on a previous video mentioning this method as an alternative option to replacing the battery. I've since tested it myself on both and SP and GBA micro and it does indeed work!

It would probably be easier to plug the power adapter into a surge protector and flip the switch on and off. You get the same result with less insertion wear on the GBA's connector. Me personally, I would just replace the battery. They are 20 years old now. Nothing last forever. The blue OEM batteries were made later so they usually still work.

got any recommendations for reliable battery sellers? i have an sp here given by a friend that claimed it wouldnt charge, its inflated, so im not giving it power lol.

Mine showed to be charging with the constant light on, but it wouldn't turn on. The charging light would only turn on at a specific angle, but once on, it would stay on, making me think the connection was just a bit dodgy. At the risk of worsening this problem, I thought 'fk it', and decided to give this a shot. Bang -- it works!! Connection is not dodgy at all, but the battery itself literally just needed a jumpstart. Haven't touched this GBA in about 16+ years at this point, but holy shit, it works flawlessly. Thank you so much!!

Mine does recharge when turned on but when it's off it only charges for 1 second, should I try this method or just stick to the charging while on?

How do i fix ny gba sp if it charges fast and dies fast?

I have one GBAsp that works and one that doesn’t. Even if I swap the batteries the charge light only comes on for a second and I tried this method for (no joke) about 15 minutes. Any tips?

It can be also because of the charger besides of the battery itself? I just rescued my old Gameboy Advance sp and I just wanna play it again 🥲

I had a microscopic fuse go out and just soldered a wire across the contacts I ain't fooling with that mess

I've also noticed that the battery will usually hold a better charge the more you use it.

Also try an alchohol pad and a toothpick to get into hard to reach areas to clean, tried this yesterday with no luck then tried with a toothpick and alchohol wipe and got it fixed up
