@@robertcomer2767I wager that he did. Sir Bruce asked the HIGNFY producers if they wanted him to present the show in a more formal style, but they said that they wanted him to do it in his usual manner. No way they kept Hislop in the dark over it. He had to be playing along.

This series was a sad end to an iconic TV show. Buggered up the theme music, buggered up the format, and buggered up the set.

There are very few presenters out there who could exceed the bar Jim Perry set with the original US (late 1970s-early 1980s) version of Card Sharks (of which PYCR is based off of). Bruce Forsyth has done that and then some (albeit with a couple of British based quirks to PYCR compared to Card Sharks in that you have couples instead of solo players and the reduction from four couples to two before the main game).
@eclectica1 Жыл бұрын
Just so you know, for the majority of the UK run of the show, there were two couples competing against each other. The four couple format was part of a reboot that ultimately failed.

Bruce needed to update his look to go with the jazzed up theme tune. Dale Winton went from lime green padded suits in the early 90s to leather jackets and chinos in the 2000s. Bruce always wore his large lapel old man suits all the way through since the very very first PYCR.

Two main reasons being Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and the lifting of the restriction on commercial TV which once capped the value of prizes to £3000 in the 1980's. Millionaire completely blew the competition out of the water, when it arrived with its huge cash prizes. Because of its phenomenal ratings success, other gameshows copied the tricks and incorporated larger jackpots to as much as the budget could stretch. What's interesting to note though, all made the jackpot hard to achieve and on average gave away smaller sums that they bragged could potentially be won. Cars were once a staple of gameshow prizes, because they were the top desired prize which the restriction could stretch to. The influence of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire can definitely be seen in many aspects, in this revamped version of Play Your Cards Right.

The amazing part is how often couples don't play "Play Your Cards Right" strategically. The best strategy, (for the ones who guess 1st), is to stay as close to the middle as possible, causing the other couple(s) to be at risk with their higher/lower guess. Yet, most try to give 'actual', possible numbers, which gives the others too much leeway in their guesses.
@yabbaguy2 жыл бұрын
I respect that opinion, but personally disagree with it - I think veering too cautiously towards the middle doesn't challenge the opponents enough with questions like the farmer in the city one at 11:30 . Going aggressively low with their guess of 18 makes it tougher to say "even lower than that", even though here they did.
