This version with Bob is so much better than the 'All Star' garbage that is on these days. Most of the time, the 'stars' aren't even celebrities and I do wonder why 'celebrities' now seem to be the default option for these quizzes. In these straitened times, surely it would be better to give ordinary people the chance to appear on TV to win a few prizes and some money to make their lives more enjoyable.

For those not familiar, those format is based off the American show "Family Feud". It originally began airing in ABC daytime in July 1976 with Richard Dawson as host. A syndicated nighttime show began airing in September 1977. The daytime show would last until June 1985, with the nighttime one leaving the air that September. A revival would begin in CBS daytime in July 1988 with new host Ray Combs. A new syndicated version would follow that September. The daytime show would air until September 1993. As for the nighttime show, the last show with Combs as host would air in the spring of 1994. By September, Richard Dawson was back. It would be cancelled in September 1995. A new version in syndication would start in September 1999 with Louie Anderson. He would be replaced in the fall of 2002 by Richard Karn. John O'Hurley would be the new host in 2006. Current host Steve Harvey has been hosting since the fall of 2010.

One or two changes I noticed here than from later eras of the show. 1. Lives were called "ducks", and were horizontally across the board instead of vertically down the sides. 2. Less answers on the board: IE top 4 answers, instead of the top 7 or 8 answers in Les & Vernon's eras.

It's interesting to look at the early episodes of game shows and see how much has changed. Other commenters have already brought up most of them, but I wanted to point out how the question doesn't appear at the bottom of the screen as it would in later series, and how only the head of the family would give an answer when a family gave three incorrect answers rather than all five members each giving an answer. Goes to show that it takes time for a game show to morph into a recognisable form.
@ajk2 жыл бұрын
When did they make the change to having each of the 5 members giving an answer for a steal instead of the head of the family only, do you know? I ask only because....the original version of this show (aka Family Feud here in the States), had that rule for the duration of its' run (which ended in 1985). The Australian version of this period also had it at the least into 1982 from looking at an episode from that year. Here stateside at least, it wasn't until 1988 when the show was revived for its' 2nd incarnation, when that switched to each member giving an answer (they also eliminated the play or pass option as an aside for that version). Given that, I'm curious to know if you guys did it first or not. I'd almost think given the 8 year gap to when we instituted it, that you may have.

Could you Imagine giving anybody a framed photo on a gameshow today, almost as bad as blankety blank chequebook and pen

@Nicholas Bassett The ultimate in stingy game show prizes, it was mentioned in the Max era that the winner's photo was in colour but the losers was black and white!!

I can't believe only four people said frog. I was expecting rabbit and frog to be number 1andr 2. Also, that family seemed slightly obsessed with bugs. Also the host made a mistake, when the family stole in the first round, he said they would get the 90 + the value of the last answer, but they only got the 90.

But in our version from 1992-1995 and again from 1999-2003, the family who steals get the value added to their score.

@chaingangsoldier31007 жыл бұрын
True, but from what I know the original host of Family Feud in the USA (Richard Dawson), was known to shout at a lot as well. (and in particular, the board..)

1980, the men still in flares, just before they disappeared.

Ooh, not before time. They'd been cutting edge in the late 1960s (although big-ended trousers were not invented in the 1960s) but became stuck in the 1970s. Until Punk came along. I have a newspaper fashion item from 1975, proclaiming: 'Chuck Out Your Flares!' The trouble was, most of us didn't identify with 60s hippies and they certainly weren't like '80s Power Dressing, which fitted the era's aspirations. So they became a fashion that Mums, Dads and Granddads wore, which was not good. Thank heavens for Punk! Then we wore old clothes and old string vests and things and tore them - and we were making a statement about the current state of affairs. We were in huge debt as a country and aggro abounded. The other thing I loved in the 1970s was the massive 1950s revival - I became a teddy boy! But when the 1960s and '50s generation proclaimed their own fashions as being totally fresh and turned up their noses at the various revivals in the 1970s (kipper ties/Platform shoes = 1930s/1940s, for instance) we quickly discovered that the 60s owed a huge debt of gratitude to the 1920s and Victorian eras, and the original 1950s teddy boys were so named because their suits were Edwardian style (Edward = Ted). That shut them up.

One thing that is bugging me after watching this, even though it is totally irrelevant now... where would the X have been placed on the board, if indeed at all, should a steal attempt have been unsuccessful?
