How out of touch do you need to be? Being obese isn't a choice when all you can afford is an unhealthy diet because the cost of healthy food is sky high compared to unhealthy food. Also manufacturers put loads of stuff into our food and drinks. Obesity is the natural effect when you basically allow manufacturers do what they want, high cost of healthy food and ultimately lack of clear understanding of portion sizes etc since they change their minds every few years.

As the person above says, calories is the name of the game (however I do agree, healthy foods need to be subsidised), going for a run and being active is free!

Life insurance is based on statistical analysis of health and actuarial data compiled over many decades. In other words decisions made by actuaries are decided by objective medical realities not subjective hurt feelings.Truth hurts.

Good news from Insurance Companies. As a slim person I had a very well known Companies advert pulled:- 2 phone calls and 2 emails. stopped the advert dead for misleading information on Calories by a factor of 1000. Even the marketing people in the Company did not understand Calories. Calorie is the energy used to raise 1g of water by 1 degree Celsius. An Example would be put 2 teaspoons of cold water on the palm of your hand raising that to body temperature would take 10g of water at 10C body temperature 37C difference 27C 27x10=270calories. Rough daily intake of 2000 kilocalories 2,000,000calories equivalent to raising 25kg of water by 100celcius. a fair amount of energy. Burn more energy than you consume and you will lose weight. Too sedentary lifestyle. What is IMPORTANT that if you reading this or know someone who is over weight Crash Dieting does not work. along with High Impact Exercise Low Impact Exercise is key. Even cooking pasta the day before you eat it changes the molecular structure and is much better for you.

But popular opinion is obesity is okay?? The insurance industry has the stats and obesity kills. In the past obesity was about 10% so it isn’t genetics it’s choice.

This is ridiculous and needs to be left to doctors to determine whether or not the person is healthy. Obesity is not necessarily a choice. It's more complicated than that and offensive to insist it's a choice.

Given that obesity and lower than average IQ are linked I'd be wary of suggesting that obese people really have that much choice. It's a very complex subject and clearly GB News is either unable or unwilling to deal with that complexity.

Of course obesity should be taken into account for life insurance!! Obesity is a well defined and described health risk and increases the risk of early mortality. It sounds like more than 1 million brits need to try and improve their health. Increase the risk, then expect an increase in rate. No one has an automatic right to health insurance.

Insurance companies are correct they can't make money off of some people. Life Insurance companies should go into the immortality business to keep their customers young and beautiful. Even a poor man's elixir of immortality works wonders. Works for me. Hahaha.

Im 5'4" 9 stone, fit and active and have high blood pressure and cant get life insurance, cant get a gp to find the cause im just given tablets.

@@professormcclaine5738 thank-you. This was mid 70's and you could tell that there was something not right with her. See was massive almost double everyone else and I'm pretty sure she didn't stupid amounts of food.

First you educate the population about caloric deficiency. Eat less calories than you burn, this is how you maintain or lose weight. Then you get fruit, veg, chicken and fish cheap in the shops. No excuses to not eat healthy. But we need to address the over priced sports equipment now on sale. I have my own gyn in my garage. But I recently needed to upgrade/replace some dumbbells I had and damn it was not cheap. We need to address that. Also get boxing into schools and start training kids to be healthy from a young age. Then we won't have so many unhealthy adults.
