It was only recently , may this year that it came out that there were nigerian nurses in nhs with fraudulant qualifications they had found at least 500, there has been issues with this in america too. I retired from nhs theatres 13 yrs ago and the incompetance of some of the african nurses was unbelieveable , and huge fustration to surgeons when they barely understand english and it delays a response from them in a setting were communication amongst the team is vital . Im not surprised they get a lot of complaints,

I had to go to one of the wards to do some pre op checks with a patient and had the curtains drawn round , i heard a jamaican nurse telling an old lady in the next bed in pain waiting to go to theatre for hip op, that white woman dont know how to deal with pain. I reported that to the surgeon when i got back to theatre ,as the lady was next on his list he had a word with the ward manager , she must been spoken to as next time i was on the ward , i got the side eye look . The thought of so many nigerian nurses and that included midwives having fraudulent qualifications is scary.

My mum begged me not to put her in a nursing home, if she needed to go into one, with black nursing and care staff. She worked with them and was appalled by their aggressive attitude and treatment of the elderly. This was 30 years ago in London. The complaints thing doesn’t really mean you can reach any conclusions in the abstract though because people complain about all kinds of things. For instance a relative of mine worked in a place where a complaint was made about a black nurse for singing a hymn to a patient! The patient wanted her to sing it for her but another patient complained about it! Apparently you’re not allowed to let people know you’re a Christian these days. 😂

Some nurses from abroad are getting nursing posts in the UK without their qualifications even being verified, and, in some instances, after years of service they are being thrown out after doing who knows what damage. The NHS is a cathedral of mismanagement and wastage and poor practice.

Unfortunately some hospitals are running on one nurse to nearly 20 patients. It's extremely dangerous and exhausting hence the mass recruitment from abroad. Start by encouraging your family members and friends to study healthcare profession to ease of the stress on british trained nurses before coming here to utter absolute nonsense. A lot of overseas recruitment have saved a lot of NHS hospitals from one nurse to over 15 patients or junior doctors work monstrous hours at work. So be appreciative because lack of staffing is really a huge problem. Care homes are still struggling to recruit carers. NHS IS GOING TO OTHER COUNTRIES PLEADING AND RECRUITING MORE STAFF. A LOT OF BRITISH NIRSES ARE RUNNING OFF TO AUSTRALIA FOR BETTER PAY AND LIFE. THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE RUBBISH.

The President of the Royal College of Nursing is not white! I have experienced nursing in the NHS I witnessed poor nursing practice and abusive nursing, I have NOT complained on the basis I am white, the instances were nurses that are of a different race and I know it would be construed that I was being racist as the managers are predominantly not white and there are the Diversity Managers that would put a spanner into those works!

Yep, unfortunately it’s all about box ticking these days. It’s more important that an equal number of people of different ethnicities are recruited, even though they make up a minority of the population (blacks about 8% in this country) and even if they’re not as good at the job.

I think there are probably more complaints about black and ethnic minority nurses due to cultural differences. I’ve lived in different countries, even certain black and brown sub cultures in Britain have very different cultural attitudes and this might just clash with the wider public - culture rather than race is probably the issue. I would imagine there are a similar number of higher complaints for Eastern European nurses though would have to check the data.

We certainly have more than our fair share of professional racist grifters and victims. I was particularly amused by the made up statistics that black people are more likely to be arrested then acquitted by juries and magistrates. How come the prisons overflow with black convicts then? Let's have true statistics. Black men between 18 and 40 commit many more crimes than their white counterparts especially murder and violent and sexual crimes. That's the truth not some racist fairy tale.

This isn't a race issue, despite the efforts of some to make it one. Her actions were despicable, unimaginable, which is why people found it hard to comprehend. You can't compare general complaints to suspicions of a serial killer operating on neonatal units. Even so, the management have a lot to answer for. The Consultants, the people more qualified to identify the unusual nature of the deaths, should be applauded. If it wasn't for their efforts in pursuing the deaths, despite the management advising them to draw a line under it, she may still be working and harming innocent babies.

One reason probably why Beverley Allitt was caught earlier than Letby is probably because the latter was more qualified and specialised in nursing than Allitt. If memory serves me right Beverley Allitt was a SEN. SENs don’t exist anymore but they weren’t as qualified as RGNs, didn’t have as much training and wouldn’t be carrying out certain tasks meant to be done by RGNs. Lucy Letby was a high grade nurse who had specialised in neonatal nursing. She obviously is an intelligent individual and was meant to be carrying out specialist nursing duties, very often alone I would imagine. All these things helped her along with being undetected for so long.

Based on his evidence, either a higher number of black nurses are reported unfairly and allegations not borne out, or else there is a higher incidence of wrongdoing but they are unable to prove it. The former seems more likely. But let's look at the particular instance of Letby. I really don't believe that the delay in dealing with it was motivated by racism. She has been described as 'beige'. I think she looked so ordinary and harmless that it was hard for people to believe she could have committed these crimes. What I found so appalling about Dr Shola and Kelechi's comments was the complete lace of sensitivity in making use of this tragic case for political ends. The emphasis should be on sympathy for the victims and ensuring it cannot happen again.
