READ DESCRIPTION- This rear end came out of and is going in a GBody
Doing this video, first of all, because I can. Second to provide a more descriptive how to on doing a rear disc upgrade for your Chevy 10/12 Bolt rear end. With slight modification to your housing ends, you can put 98-2002 Camaro rear disc brakes on the car, changing the drums. You can also save a ton of money, if you pull decent used parts from a donor car (at the junk yard) and if you catch them on a half off day, you will save even more money. I usually have a setup laying around, but instead of buying them from someone, I encourage you to pull them yourself.
You can pull them off the donor vehicle, by taking the rear wheels off (if they are on), removing the rear caliper and pabs (retaining the bolts/hardware). the you will need to pull the axles (which is done the same way I show you in the video). then pull the ebrake/backing plate assembly and all bolts... if you want, pull the ebrake cable too, this may help you modify your vehicle so that the ebrake works properly.
I do not know everything, but if you ask any questions, I will share what I do know.
What you will need:
- donor rear brakes (either new or) from a 98-02 Camaro
- longer studs, 10 (at least 2.5" long) and for your vehicles proper knurl diameter
- gear oil (and additive, if you have a posi unit)
- 3/8 inch drill bit and smaller bit for pilot holes (must be able to drill through steel)
- sawzaw, hand saw, grinder, torch, or whatever you can use to cut thick metal
- should replace the seals and bearings while you are at it
- I normally get new rotors and pads (brake motive has them for crazy cheap)
- disc/disc prop valve, or modify your stock, or add adj prop valve to rear line
- shock relocation brackets, which can be made from angle iron, misc bolts/nuts
Last but not least, you need COMMON SENSE! I may have missed a thing or to in the list but it will be explained in the video.
Certain aftermarket 15" wheels may work with this upgrade, but you will more than likely need 16" or larger wheels. Do your research...

thanks, my son is always around and always asking questions... i try to give him the answer or we go look it up, so that he stays encouraged to ask more and learn more... i am going to take some measurements (like the axle flange offset to the housing end, etc) to give people something to compare on vehicles that are different from what this particular rear end goes in, I will be doing an 8.2 10 bolt in the near future to try it on that...

glad you liked it, there are many ways to do this sort of upgrade too, with many different disc brake setups... many parts from newer cars interchange with our older cars, just gotta figure it out and do a little research

Great videos. I am a career technician so of course I don't all the step by step but the parts exchange and alterations save me the trouble of figuring it out and on behalf of all of us watching at any skill level (if I may speak for more than myself), Thank you for sharing this information your experience and your time.

it all depends on what you will be doing with the cutlass, in my opinion... if its just a street car and you wont be too hard on it, a 7.5 will be fine... if you want to go to the track and launch hard etc. bigger/better axles and hardware with a good posi, etc. is the way to go... an 8.5 or ford 9" or custom... all depends on what you can afford to do in my book...

Fantastic video ..You described each process and reason exctly like a guy who "KNOWS" I built my first 78 G body wagon BlK on BLK power everything from a funeral home that who was told it needed yet another crate motor si I got after it sat in the corner of there drive way collecting crap . I did the newly posi made el comino rear work with all poly-PST with good springs but left the drum's {drag racing} coil over rear and used box adjustable rear control arm's with good ends and QA1 2 way ,made my own cross member for bent 3 inch S/S worked 700R4 nice converter {lock up} and costly for what I got but used a rather small 355 instead of the 434 I wanted but cost was getting up there ..I used a narrow type vette rally wheel up front & the same rally but 15X8, small drop in the front no cowl hood which sucked for carburetor hood clearance issu so I used the Stealth first design work outrageous but would have still rather used spacer plate and maybe small plate system ? and then let My ex wife talk me into selling over time. So today in building one last Malibu wagon a 1981 this time with a big inch LS motor injected with spray the right trans, go to lighten it up a little and do the 434 maybe @&% drag radial drag racing just to fuck around . I started building mostly chevy's like 40 yrs ago ...So I built a few, with each one different but the same kinda .. Any I have a lot of repair panel's to replace yet so it might be a while yet.anyway I'd love to see what your G body'd turned out like ..

Great video!! I like that you covered everything that went wrong or might go wrong. A lot of "how to" videos tell you to do something and then edit to the item done and don't show what could go wrong.

sorry for the late response been crazy busy... havent done any vids on the ebrake setup as the el co has been set to the side for a bit... but a friend of mine, named "ElCoWarren" has made brackets that not only look good, were easy to make, but should function very well with this swap... he has a youtube channel and some pretty good projects going at all times... i know he posted a few vids on his bracket... it is pretty much how it should be done... although there are more way then one...

its a little more complicated that this comment area will allow me room, but it depends on what housing ends he has, speedway sells a complete kit i believe which will include the brackets, that may be an easier swap for him, you can use lincoln versalles disc brakes too, but he needs to know what housing he has, what did it come off of, did he have it shortened, etc? which ends are on it...

it may bolt up the same or similar in theory... just need to check the offsets, etc... if you pull the parts on one of the half off days, it can be a relatively inexpensive was to attempt it, just double and triple check everything before you cut anything, if anything needs cutting... im not 100 percent sure, i havent worked on any third gen camaros

not necessarily no, but you may need to change out your proportioning valve... (or add one to control/proportion rear) and there are several budget friendly ways to do this... take a look around on gbody forum... im sure i made (and others) a ton of threads years ago on this... cant remember exactly off hand, which vehicle to get one of off etc... want to say 77-80 caddy (that came with rear disc brakes was a direct swap.. cant remember though... or contact EightiesPerformance LLC...

Albert Walters I use Kore3 brackets for all my front setups... the brackets call for vette pabs... so if you follow suit, you would need to use vette pabs... you can use either ls1 or vette calipers with vette pabs too.. but the vette pab and the ls1 pab mount up differently... you may be able to find someone with a front bracket for ls1 pabs, if you look hard enough... i use KORE3
