My father always said; "Be a professional. The man who shows up to work with his own tools, no matter the trade. Be the one with solutions and not the problem. Learn the basics and build yoyr skill." I've lived by this all my life. Not always successful, but I keep going.

First and foremost, everyone needs to remember why we are at war. Everyone's life in this platoon depends on his platoon brother's dedication. PERFECT PRACTICE: In training, skill sets, and conditioning, strengthens our resolve in combat. Perfect is the point, not the enemy of good enough. Training, practice, skills, and conditioning for war will demand total commitment from every fighter in Alpha. We will prepare ourselves as if we will be engaged in the most vicious, difficult, and physically demanding combat situations. The war is on going; every day we are here the enemy is there, getting harder by living a culture of war. Therefore, while here, our training will be perfect and our dedication unwavering. We will not become soft by losing focus on what lies ahead. We are professional athletes, and our chosen sport is war. Superior athletes in their sport distinguish themselves by knowing their assignments, developing their skills, and having superior conditioning; this is the difference between All American or All Conference, gold medal or silver, and in our sport life or death. Therefore, we will set ourselves apart and prepare ourselves in such a manner. Furthermore, we will be prepared for any shit storms that may arise in combat, whether that is fighting our way through mountains with down men, or E&E'ing across the desert. On the other hand, this also means that we will be in the condition needed to engage in the most arduous missions day after day-and relentlessly kick the shit out of the enemies of America. Without this culture being a first and foremost platoon value we will simply be average. DO NOT FORGET, that our enemy's resolve to kill Americans strengthens, and their mettle tempered, forged in a furnace of constant war. AVERAGE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!, not in our sport. For the next year and a half it is up to each of us to commit to mastering the skills of our sport. We can never forget that war lies ahead, and the men to our left and our right are the ones we count on. My husband showed me this over a decade ago. But I remember asking him to send it to me. Just for motivation. They are all still in the same group chat. My husband actually just went to a ceremony to put his old platoon officers shoulder boards on who made captain or 0-6. His wife did the other shoulder. Who we are both great friends and neighbors for the longest.
