Disappointing to see loose concrete and bricks sitting uncovered in the wheelbarrow on the back of the trailer. Hit a bad bump, blow out a tire, those fucking things could do some damage or injure someone when they bounce outta there. A 2x2 sheet of plywood over the small shit, that big chunk of concrete on top of that, then run the strap over that. Otherwise nice job.

Great video Shawn. Awesome job GCF! If you pre-drill a 3/4" or bigger hole on the lower spot where you are coring, a lot of the water inside the curb will be alleviated. Face your core drill trigger up and use a tile spade as a lever (of course not too much) to put pressure on your drill. Helps to keep the operator dry-er-ish. You know what I mean. Nicely done! Couple of questions: 1) I didn't see any cleanout points installed. If a clog develops inside the pipe, do you just have to snake the whole thing? 2) Would you consider placing a screen at the curb to keep rodents from crawling up inside? 3) It looks like the pipe meets the curb at a 90-degree angle as viewed from above. Would it be a good idea to angle the pipe toward whichever side of the street flows downhill? (looks like the left side as you face the house). This would presumably help the water flow toward the storm drain, and help street water from uphill not to enter the pipe.
@GCFD
@GCFD 2 жыл бұрын
Great questions. 1 - There is enough space between the downspout and the PVC coupling to fit a jetter hose or snake in if it's never needed. We do install cleanouts if requested, but they cost a little more and have a very industrial look to them. 2 - No, we keep the outlet open so it doesn't collect debris flowing through and out of the pipes. The smooth inside and bright white don't attract rodents and the slightest rain produces a flood of water through the pipe. 3 - yes, we could absolutely do that to help with the flow. Thanks for your comments - Shawn

Good question. The line is higher than our pipe so it should be good. There's a float switch on the pan of all air handlers in case it does fill up. That switch will kill power until the clog is removed and the pan drains down.

I would like to add that local road agencies may not like those locally maintained curbs being cut or cored. Flowing water onto the road can cause icing and accelerating deterioration of the pavement surface. Since every place is different, it should be said that folks watching should always follow their local ordinances before cutting or digging close to the road. I do want to commend the post work inspection in the rain. Nothing beats actual rain to verify a good job. Great video overall.

@@GCFD The city actually says otherwise... "No person, firm, or corporation shall remove, alter or construct any driveway, curb, gutter or pavement, or perform any other improvement on any public street or dedicated street right-of-way without permits authorizing such improvements." They also say. "Whenever any person shall do or undertake to do any of the things set forth in this Manual, it shall be the responsibility of such person to protect from harm and damage all persons who may be using any street or sidewalk or other public place where such activity is in progress; and to that end such person shall erect and maintain suitable signs, lights, barricades and other traffic control devices at the proper location where such work is in progress. These safeguards shall be applied in accordance with the current Work Area Traffic Control Handbook (WATCH) available from the Greensboro Department of Transportation. No idea how big the house is but I'm guessing it's under that. I have tore out many gutters, curbs and sidewalks that was altered/poured by a contractor or hack without being bonded or without permits. Our stupid city said I cannot run my drain to the curb, instead I have to run it to the storm drain box. Claims if I run it to the curb, the street might freeze in the winter. Really ludicrous, because all the water in my back yard already runs to the curb, but instead of going under the sidewalk, it flows over it and gets the sidewalk all wet and muddy! I sure would like to put some drains in my back yard and let the water flow out to the gutters, where the rain could then flow into the storm drains!

Can you give some insight on the codes for draining off property mainly into the municipal system. Where I'm at (Michigan) most gutters drain onto the property or directed to an appropriate off property drainage but never directly to the street. I know that if does connect directly to the sewer here it must be buried 4ft cause that's our frost line. I'm also surprised you didn't put cleanouts where each downspout connects. I clean gutters professionally normally with a leaf blower but make sure even the inground drainage clear best as possible. Another tip roof valleys will always have the highest volume and velocity water. Adding a piece of flashing on top of the corner gutter will direct the water into the gutter. Most of time the flashing is a few inches high by 6-12 inches in each direction.
@GCFD
@GCFD 2 жыл бұрын
The city doesn't care if residents tie into the street and the stormwater management system as long as it's gravity fed at the curb. I do install cleanouts if they are requested by the customer, but usually don't. The reason is there is plenty of space between the downspout and pipe to fit a snake or jetter hose to clean out the pipes.

What gear are you running your core drill at should be about 700rpm for a 4.5" bit. Maybe look into getting your core bit retipped.

Did you tie the gaspack/hvac condensate line directly into the drain pipe? If there is ever a blockage, it could cause problems for the condensate line. People typically put a drain below the condensate and let the condensate drip into the drain. This way drain blockage doesn't block the condensate line.

12:35 Connecting the condensate line from that heat pump directly into the drain like that is not a good idea, if that drain pipe ever gets blocked up downstream from that point where it is tied in, the water will back up into the heat pump cabinet, overflow the condensate collection tray and flood the innards of the heat pump cabinet with water, silt and mud. Homeowner might not notice this either until his heat pump stops working. That condensate outlet should be run out over a surface drain grate, this way if the drain backs up it won't back up into the heat pump but just flood over on the ground. Everything else about this job looks fine, and well done with care.

Here the streets are part of the stormwater management system so tying into the street is a great way to go. The city gives verbal permission to "tie in," but if written permission is needed for an HOA or other body, they give free tie-in permits to homeowners and companies.

I am surprised you did not include a couple of external connections in order to help flush the system out in case you get the dreaded rodents (squirrels) leaving nuts or trying to nest inside the pipe which then would cause a backup.

How deep does the 4inch pipe end of being under ground level. In the video it looks less than 4 Inches below ground level. I would worry if they do aeration for lawn would it not puncture the pipe

It needs to be deep enough/shallow enough to maintain fall. An aerator won't damage schedule 40 pipe unless it's a massive machine.

Yes you could collect the rain water. I'm not sure if that's legal here or not. There is enough space between the downspout and the PVC coupling to fit a jetter hose or sewer snake in, so we rarely install cleanouts unless the customer asks for them.

what if there's a blockage between the condensate line and the curb? wouldn't it cause the condensate line to back up?

Yes it would cause the line to back up and the float valve on the handler pan would trip. Happens all the time but I think the 3/4" condensate line would block before the 4" would. It was a consideration when we discussed adding it to our 4" lines.

Should put a cleanout in the 3/4 inch condensate line with maybe a shutoff valve so you can create a vaccum. Most of the time that 3/4 inch gets clogged and you have to attach a vaccum outside to clear it. Not sure how they would clear it out from underground. Its possible to blow air from the inside unit but its not as good as outside.
