In part 3 we solve a majority of the basement flooding issues with concrete. Proper sloping of the walkway was critical to achieving 100% success in this drainage solution.

I would have done exactly what you did regarding the car port lifting the sides up, however I would have added a long channel drain between the two lifted sides right at the end where it would drain into a pipe leading to the backyard drain. That way, downpours would have had a minimal effect on the backyard. Loved the dry line along the wall. Very impressed with the concrete crew sloping the water into the small side channel.

Shawn - what a great project and I really admire your attention to detail in everything you do. I've personally inspected many brick siding properties where concrete was poured right up against the brick without a foam backer to separate the two: end result in 7-10 years is brick bonding with concrete slab and pulling away 1-2" on some homes. This severely bows the siding wall and causes issues when trying to sell. I know you care about your customers, and I just wanted to share this genuine word of caution for future projects.

The worst thing I can say is we don't want soda cans in the concrete mix, other than that the job looks quite interesting. The homeowner will need railing & should probably reconfigure the ventilation around that ac. They might should have ducting on top of that ac unit to direct the hot air out from under that shaded living space.

@@GCFD On problems like that you'll want to check the melting point of the siding & things in the area around all the heat it is producing. An example is the aeration pumps on OSSFs, if they see temperatures above 104f then the rubber-diagrams can prematurely rupture. In the air pump manuals for OSSFs they'll suggest adding fans to enclosures to keep the temperature below 104f. I think some house siding begins to warp at 126f, it'll be in the warranty small-print.

Where will water under that porch go (like around that door and gas meter area)? A slight hill coming down into it as well. Not seeing a drain. Seems like water would head there. Did I miss something? Guess you explained grading the backside hill out away from it. Still seems that slab there would potentially need a drain. Great content as always Shawn!
