It's definitely an IDW Prime but it looks like GCreations might have used the Don Figueroa designs as a base for design. He tended to use a more gundam/movie-esqe look in his art hence the thinner look.

I really like the style of this prime and also the new IDW concept but man that transformation is the only reason I might not get this figure. I know to some people is good engineering and I agreed but also it takes out the fun of transforming it. that is just my POV. Thanks Ben for such a detail review. keep it up mate.

The grey plastic used for the joints and hinges looks like the same sort of ABS plastic that Bandai uses in their frames for Gundam kits. This i can approve of cuz more often than not this plastic is very good at holding a pose. However, it does make the frame more delicate and more like a model than a toy so I recommend everyone who gets this figure take care and treat it gently.

You missed a few point of articulation, the head definitely can move up and down, and the arms go further outwards if you lift up the grey piece on the end of the shoulder. The only thing truly lacking with the articulation is the hands (How easy they'll be to replace, idk) But I'm still confident and happy about preordering this guy

good review as always. but ultra maxmus seemed ultra painful transformation wise. I would wait for generation toys for their version of optimus and your take on that and then decide on getting an IDW style prime. you're the best btw

Benscollectables I think maybe his neck/shoulders might be mistransformed? My reviewer had different articulation & the look was little different too i think. The neck swiveled up & down on a higher up adjustable hinge. Not a rocking neck. He's a top notch reviewer that doesn't speak English & still has some of the best reviews! it's crazy! If your even interested, that is. :P Great review tho bro! Did we see you show the leg swivel like Soul of Chogokin Gunbuster has? Thats the coolest part in the transformation fosur! I'm definitely excited for this one, almost as much as I'm looking forward to Primorion. But that just announced NEW mold Masterpiece Movie Optimus Prime sounds like that beat them.all. Btw I picked Starscream and Optimus Prime from 3A. Now in just looking for Megatron hehe

he is REALLY skinny looking to me, especially when you put him next to mp 10. to me personally, I like prime having some bulk on him, because this one looks like primes is in his teenage years when he has an appetite but doesn't gain any weight

Hi Ben, great review, question, how did you enjoy that transformation? I really like IDW Prime, but this to me is a little lanky with the legs and some of their choices of joints an somewhat limited articulation means I'll wait for MMC

A great looking figure, but all of those tabs and flaps and folding stuff, I'd break it within the first few transforms. I wouldn't get it just for bot mode either, as I do like to transform things randomly. Oh well, not for me (unless I find it super cheap). Thanks for the review!

Thanks Ben for another amazing review! Regarding this figure, I'm just not sure that I'm feeling it. Don't get me wrong, it looks great in alt mode, love the MP-10 trailer compatibility, but some of the bot mode leaves me wanting. I prefer a beefier Prime to this. This was an absolute have on my list of figures for this year however after watching a couple of reviews including this one I'm skeptical if I'm going to pick this one up. Maybe if there is a really good deal on it.

and talking about the figure itself i dont know, the colors look great, the design is accurate, and transformation isnt that bad, since i love complex transformations, but i totally hate how "fragile" the joints look, the pegs, couple of pieces and details, parts, and handles, i cant justify its price and then break it just because it wasnt better designed, also there are many design decitions i dont understand, aside the obvious hands, the articulation range in general some parts look like they have a lot of movement and others just barely, sadlyi i think this figure is just a beautiful statue and nothing more(ok maybe not an statue but i think you understand my point), there are way to many flaws, thin parts, joints and pieces

I think in the case of this figure you have to ask yourself, do you like toys that transform, or do you just like action figures that vaguely resemble vehicles when you fold 3 panels off their backs? Because this guy is most certainly a transformer, not just an action figure with a car-shaped backpack.

Interesting that you didn't mention Toyworld's Orion, which despite being more of a Voyager sized figure, was the first to go after the IDW Optimus Prime aesthetic and did a better job capturing it, from the look of it - this figure looks rather anorexic, while Orion looked fairly bulky. And the truck mode of Orion seems a little cleaner, too.

Unfortunately, the version they based this off of was from Costa's run in Trasnformers ongoing, and for most of that series, the bots were done in a Bayformers-esque art style that had overcomplicated parts and transformations. Optimus was also done in this fashion and it appears that they brought over even the complicated design into toy form as well. As stated before, it's cool to watch, but hell on toy accuracy.

Now, the first set, the straight up and down ones, I don't understand. As far as I know, they've never been in IDW, and I've read everything except the spotlights. As for the angled ones, they're great, except they're not tilted out far enough and they should be angled back.

If this is a Japanese toy, wouldn't Convoy (even though they AGREED to call him "Optimus Prime" for the live-action films) be the right name in Japan? I thought that's what they called the character in the Japanese Transformers series...
