GCSE Biology PAPER 2 | Combined Science

This video will cover ALL of the content you need to know for GCSE Biology Paper 2 - Combined Science (AQA). It’s the perfect tool for your exam revision and below I’ll share how to get the most out of it in 5 simple steps.
1. Watch with a pen and some paper in hand (pause and go and get some now!)
2. As I read out the title of each mini-topic, pause and write down EVERYTHING you already know about it. Some people call this a “mind blurt” or a “mind dump”.
3. Press play and listen carefully: first, tick off the bits you knew - well done :)
4. When I explain something you didn’t have on the paper, write it down (preferably in a different colour pen). You could even make a flash card of this new info!
5. Hopefully you’ve left enough time to come back to this video in, say, a week (after revising some other subjects). Rewatch it and do all of the above steps again ^^^ - now see: has the amount of “new” information shrunk? The bits you didn’t remember are now your key focus - stick them on your wall, read them in the morning and again in the evening, and get someone to question you on them!
Before you know it, you’ll have memorised the entire content of Biology Paper 2!!

1:31 - three factors we need to keep constant (blood glucose levels, water levels, temperature) 4:11 - path of the nervous system (a neuron is an individual nerve cell) a relay neuron, just like in a relay race, passes impulses between different neurons. 5:48 - a gap between two neurons is known as a synapse. 5:52- neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) diffuse from one synapse to the receptors on the next neuron which causes an electrical impulse to be triggered. 6:56 - reflex arc does not involve conscience parts of the brain. most sensory neurons do not pass directly into the brain, but synapse in the spinal cord 9:59 - thyroxine controls development in children, adrenaline increases o2 and glucose levels. 11:23 - the brain releases TSH which controls how much thyroxine the thyroid gland produces. if there is too much thryoxine in the blood then less TSH is produced. 12:06 - too much glucose can damage organs such as eyes and kidneys. insulin is produced when there is too much glucose so that organs can use the glucose for respiration. if there is still excess glucose it is stored as glycogen which is stored in the liver and the muscles. 13:50 - if there is little glucose then the pancreas detects it and releases glucagon which alerts the liver and muscles so that they can turn the glycogen back into glucose. 14:28 - GLUCAGON= GLUCOSE GONE (released when glucose is low!) 17:57- label the female thing 18:40 - FSH= ovulation (causes a egg to mature every 28 days) LH = stimulates the release of mature egg Progesterone and Oestrogen= maintain the lining of the uterus so that it is ready for a fertilised egg. 20:49 - idk what this is 22:11- contraception 26:17 - IVF treatment 28:54 - meiosis- a process that takes place in the reproductive system, which halves the number of chromosomes making gametes. meiosis is the same as mitosis, except it has a second division which halves the number of chromosomes. 32:44 - genome screening benefits 34:06 - allele- variations of genes - genotype= the alleles that an organism has inside it 44:38 - polydactyly= caused by a dominant allele, cystic fibrosis= caused by two recessive alleles. people with cystic fibrosis have thick and sticky mucus that the cilia cant push out. this makes a mucus plug and blocks airways and traps bacteria (mucus traps the bacteria) 47:42 - genetic screening 55:16 - stages of natural selection, Speciation: when a changes so much it becomes a different species 1:00:03- genetically engineering for insulin 1:01:56 - how fossils are formed 1:06:54 - evolutionary trees 1:11:51- ecosystem= communities interacting with each other and the non living. 1:19:55 - examples of extreme conditions that extremophiles live in 1:26:43 - water, decay and carbon cycles Detritus feeders feed on dead bodies and waste. They respire and return carbon dioxide to the air. 1:30:08 - fairly constant population size 1:31:33 - how humans reduce biodiversity 1:33:40 - 3 types of pollution LAW LAND AIR WATER 1:34:18 - deforestation and peat bog destruction 1:37:24 - difference between climate change and global warming 1:41:46 - maintaining biodiversity mnemonics

Hi Asmeret, I'm afraid my videos have been made using the AQA specification for both Higher and Foundation - but they aren't exactly matched to Edexcel. There is a lot of overlap but some bits are different so check the Edexcel specification to make sure. Good luck! You are right! I made that mistake when I first made the video & edited it for the individual one on biotic & abiotic factors but I guess I forgot when making this Paper 2 one! Thanks for the feedback :)
