Alkenes are a homologous series of hydrocarbons that contain only carbon and hydrogen atoms with double bonds. Is this correct?
@ahmedshaeemmohamed12864 жыл бұрын
i think its best to specify that they are carbon double bonds to spare any confusion
@AllesandraPanaligan4 жыл бұрын
@@ahmedshaeemmohamed1286 thank you very much!
@Milojs72 жыл бұрын
Alkenes are unsaturated meaning they have a carbon to carbon double bond make sure u say that they are also more reactive than alkanes
@pomi63204 жыл бұрын
You also forgot to talk about the reaction of addition of hydrogenhalide. which is adding a hydrogen halide to an alkene to form a haloalkene. for example: propene + hydrogen chloride ---> chloropropene. The hydrogen will bond to one carbon and chlorine to another one. we can change the chlorines location to make different izomers which are compounds having the same molecular formula but different structural formula. Like (1-chloropropene and 2-chloropropene). Also in some past paper questions for Chemistry IGCSE (0620) i found that they asked for the catalyst and conditions, so ill list them out. Hydrogenation Reaction Conditions: Catalyst: Nickel Temperature: 150 degrees C Hydration Reaction Conditions: Catalyst: Phosphoric Acid - H3PO4 Temperature: 300 degrees C Pressure: 60 A.T.M Other than that great video. Keep up the good work!!
@sammh.85783 жыл бұрын
Hey, you're right about the conditions, but isn't the bromine reaction also one of the hydrogen halide reaction?
@pomi63203 жыл бұрын
@@sammh.8578 A hydrogen halide is usually a halogen based acid. Such as HCl or HBr (not to be confused with HBrO3). Thus, its reactions would be different than those of normal halogens. One is a halogenation reaction and the other is a hydrogen halide reaction. Hope it helped!

Hi the contents of the video are wonderful and i used this video for my students in grade 9.But i have a note ,in our curriculum in Lebanon we have one more idea in addition reaction of Alkene which is the addition of hydrogenhalides its name is hydrohalogenation. So if you can make some changes in this video to add the last addition reaction (hydrohalogenation) then it will be perfect for my students.
