The 1st part was pretty known by most of the people but the practical presentation was something else. It was comprehensive and as the last part was really interesting to know how sparks sometimes passed through air. It couldn't get any less easy❤❤❤

You used a strongly charged metal to explain the relationship between electric fields and air, but I thought metals cannot become charged due too their conducting characteristics? Please someone explain this!
@anuragthakur43413 жыл бұрын
Charge can still accumulate on metals
@tejas.a063 жыл бұрын
eg cars can accumulate charge via wind which carries electrons
@bossman69bossman322 жыл бұрын
remember that a metal has postively charged metal ions and since they contain delocalised electrons, they can carry charge. Therefore, it makes them charged.

How does the strong electric field ionise air molecules?? I've looked all over google but i can't find an answer 😕
@Wildest.Dreams.089 ай бұрын
Basically, (just gonna give background info first so it makes sense,) ionisation, as you probably know is when two atoms exchange electrons so the atom that gave the electrons away, becomes positive, and the object that was given the electrons becomes negative. And ionisation happens when an atom has a charge. Now, if the object that is highly electrically charged, and the air around is is obviously not, as the air is neutrally charged, the object strips the air of it's own electrons, but the object doesn't take the electrons, it just sends it off to the surroundings, (away from the static field.) The air is now positively charged as it has more protons than electrons. The object then gives the air it's own electrons, and as we know, when a material like this sends it's electrons off to jump off, it causes an electric surge causing the air to now be electrically charged. I hope this helps.
@Wildest.Dreams.08Ай бұрын
I edited my last answer, that had some untrue things written in there, because protons never move. Check it out now if you're still stuck.
