To the lovely people at Cognito, You have been a lifesaver for me and my friends during our GCSE’s this year. I don’t know what I would have done without your amazing videos that are so simple yet so unbelievably helpful to all. I cannot learn from textbooks or revision cards, so when it comes to doing past papers, I was getting really low marks due to my lack of understanding: you have changed that. Thank you so much for everything and I cannot give you all enough praises. YOU HAVE SAVED MY GCSE’S!!!! Thank you again and I love you all ❤❤❤

Dear Amadeus and Tom, I don't know if you'll see this comment but I wanted to thank you for your amazing and helpful science videos . They were a life saver for me , particularly for physics ! I'm a visual learner so your diagrams and clear explanations were perfect in helping me understand tricky content . You made science a lot easier for me and now that the only exam in my way is Physics Paper 2 , I couldn't turn a blind eye to your channel. Thank you for being a part of my GCSE triple science journey ! From Fatima, Yr11 P.s- I loved your website too , it was super useful !

some people dislike videos because they dont want such videos to show up in their recommendations. Not necessarily everyone hates such videos, the utube algorithm works that way, if u dont want such videos to show up in ur recommendations, u can dislikie a video, tho this is a rlly bad algorithm and must have some other option, but cant help, *kira*

I'm super pleased with this video. It explained not only **how** transformers work, but included the reasoning behind their design. I watched a similar video from FreeScienceLessons (don't get me wrong, I use that resource all the time!) but it didn't go in-depth as this one, I was asking the whole time **why** is it like that and what are the benefits of a transformer being like that. This gave me a better understanding, thank you.

I've read that if the secondary coil is not there or in other words has an open circuit then this leads to the decrease of the current in the primary coil i don't know why the only reason i found was due to back emf generated due to self induction but i can't figure out why it decreases sooooo much and not just a little bit Help would be appreciated and Thank u all for your amazing help

Two questions: ONE if the transformer can be used in both directions, why labelling them "step up" and "step down" transformers? TWO now that many renewable generators are connected to low and medium voltage grids, how transformers will work if a given area has more power generated than load?

@starlightglitters345

DC current can't be used as change in current cannot be generated by DC meaning that there is no changing in magnetic field to induce a voltage across the secondary coil. DC means direct current and flows only in one direction

to decrease the energy costs because if u use normal wires u would lose energy as heat. to solve this problem u'll hve to use either thicker wires (which is expensive) or jst use the transformers (cheaper)
@luciegm3236
@luciegm3236 3 жыл бұрын
you've got your step up transformer to go into powerstations as they need lots of power to disperse to different areas. But the step down transformer means that the voltage going into your house is low enough that it won't be dangerous to use. hope this helps

Man there missing out at some key details tho, for e.g a transformer increases voltage at the cost of decreasing current which keeps overall power loss (formula P=I^2(R)) to a minimum, transformers dont generate power thier job is to transform current into voltage
