How do we know what number to plot in the tangent like there are so many distance to choose.
@Freesciencelessons4 жыл бұрын
To draw a tangent, go to the time that you're interested in and go up to the line. Place a dot on the line and then draw a straight line so it just touches the dot. This is your tangent line. The length of the tangent line is not critical (as a tangent is essentially a ratio) so make it as long as you can so it's more accurate.
@Visual_Gag6 жыл бұрын
How did you get that tangent? Why do you stop drawimg that tangent specifically in the way you did. Why is that as large as you could make it and not continue drawing the line? Also why at that specific angle? Im really struggling to understand.
@Freesciencelessons6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter at all how big your tangent is as effectively it's a ratio. As the length increases, so does the height by the same proportion. However, if you make it larger, it's simply easier to read. The angle is simply judging by eye, so that the tangent grazes the curve at the dot.

@Freesciencelessons3 жыл бұрын
If the distance-time graph is a straight line, then the speed is the same no matter what the time (the speed is the gradient of the line). If the graph is not a straight line, then you would need to draw a tangent at 20 seconds and determine the gradient of the tangent to determine the speed.

@Freesciencelessons3 жыл бұрын
Yes. The actual length of the tangent does not matter as effectively it's a ratio (as the height increases, the length increases by the same proportion). A tangent should be large to make it accurate. I could have went to 180 but in this instance 160 was large enough. I hope that answers your question.
