I have to say that I followed your KZbin video on the Husqvarna self-propelled lawn Mower to the tee. You are an excellent small engine repair person. I did everything you recommended and followed your video. I could not start my lawnmower for various reasons. I must’ve pulled that cord over 100 times. I even tried carburetor cleaner spraying from the outside and it would only start for two or three seconds. After I completed your overhaul, the engine started on the first pull. I have to give you five stars on this video.

Using the M6 x 1.00 threaded rods to maintain alignment of the parts and gaskets is genius! Well done. Possibly, I have a tip that you might find useful. Before you unscrew the main jet, insert a piece of wire (I use a straightened paper clip) into the hole in the side of the main jet housing. (I have also used a plastic toothpick to do this also works well.) Keeping slight pressure on the jet with this wire and prying upwards as the jet loosens from its threads as you unscrew the jet will make it much easier to remove the jet. No tapping or pounding will be necessary. Thanks for the video. 👍👍

Really appreciated your reply to Pete Malone on the RPM adjustment. I've been trying to figure out where and how to tweak the RPM and the correct operating RPM to set to. Your video was a real benefit to me because of the excellent video. My air butterfly valve jumped its mechanical stop and I needed to see the correct travel of the valve. I also liked your breaking the video into segments and the threaded rods for reassembly. It was suburb, well thought out, and full of really good helps and tips. I immediately stopped and made the rods before going on to ease the valve back to proper operation. Thanks much. I'll be looking up your other videos. I am a retired Field Service Engineer working on every kind of hospital Radiology equipment. I know how to fix things I'm not familiar with and finding your video was a treasure. I have this exact carb and air box with the auto choke system on a LC221RH Husqy that was given to me by a friend who couldn't get it running about 2 years ago and I can't get it to start with anything other than a shot of carb cleaner directly into the air box. Kicks on and sounds perfect but immediately shuts off. I have taken apart the carb and cleaned it with my very limited knowledge and put it all back together only to be met with the exact same result. Now that I've watched your incredibly thorough walk-through of this engine, I will be trying again but this time removing the jets that I was afraid to touch, and making sure all the passageways are clear! Thank you so much for the extraordinarily helpful video. I also told my wife I need an ultrasonic cleaner, so I'll try that as well. Thanks again! David.
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Pay special attention to the idle circuit, located under a screw on the top of the carb. There are two versions, both in which you must remove the idle speed screw to remove the jet screw. The one with the metal idle speed screw has a metal JIS (similar to a Phillips screw) and the brass jet underneath is not removable. The other with a plastic idle speed screw has a removable idle jet. It too is plastic and is removed by gently prying up. Make sure the o-ring is in good shape and the passages are clear. Avoid carb spray on the rubber bits. Brake parts cleaner is less aggressive. Hope this helps. An ultrasonic cleaner is less expensive than a new mower, considering there are so few mowers of a decent quality these days. Besides, she can clean all kinds of things like jewelry :) Cheers!

Very good video. I successfully cleaned carb and lines. On the studs to reassemble, I didn’t have the correct length bolts to make the guides so I trimmed down some wooden chop sticks from a take away place. Worked fine. I also siliconed as many gaskets in place as possible not covering any holes. One thing on reassembly is this video didn’t mention which way the emulsion tube went. I checked another video of yours to get the answer. The tip on the fuel screen was terrific. Thanks for the help.

That was a nasty one! I think your practice of putting a little WD40 on your gaskets, etc. is a good one. We always used a little film of oil on those paper or fibre type gaskets in refrigeration work to help them seal better. I will definitely work on making up those 4" long M6 rods for future use as well. Good idea! I also bought some magnetic spark plug sockets after seeing one of your videos as well. Your videos are always very clear and concise. The information is delivered in a very professional manner! Lots of helpful tips!

First of all great job on video and service your providing, I have the exact same mower, and wont start, i bought it new and my daughter used it for about 2 yrs then passed it back to me, i used it for about 2 yrs, then it just wouldn't start, so just before the 4 yr warranty ran out, i took it back to lowes, and they sent it off to some rep shop, they replaced the carb, and changed spark plug and oil, they claim that was poor maintenance, so i had to pay the 125 charge, it ran a few months the winter came and summer came and it worked a few more months, then it just quite starting again,so i removed the carb and it had some water in it, (maybe my fault for not storing it in the garage but i did have a large bucket over the engine), i drained the gas tank and used carb cleaner on the carb and reinstalled it, then it would start but sputter and rpm would raise up then lower, i ran it for an hour or two, just to see if it would clear itself, but then it turned off and would not start, i was disappointed on the 500 dollar Honda engine mower, so i parked it for a year, (compared to my 129 dollar disposable murray mower that was on its 7th yr with no maintenance was still starting on first or second pull) Now Im working on it again, I bought a new carb for it, (to resolve and carb issues) installed it, tank was empty so i put new gas, still wont start, i pulled the spark plug and i get fire, if i sprayed some starter fluid (i heard you shouldn't on lawn mowers), it now starts up for a few 1 or 2 seconds then turns off, i did have to grease the brake cable for it to work, but it was stuck in the run position, and i am using the red can fuel, still wont start, i will clean out the gas tank tomorrow and verify the gas is getting all the way to the carb, im sure some is cause when i had the fuel line removed from the carb, i turned on the fuel line and gas came out of the end, but maybe not enough, I'll check that and the brake line and install another new spark plug tomorrow. any more suggestions?
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady 2 жыл бұрын
Still could be residual fuel/water in the very bottom of the tank or fuel lines? Replacement aftermarket carbs can be problematical. I'd go back to the other carb, give it a good clean, paying special attention to the idle jet (the small screw on the top) and replace the brake cable. If it was stuck, it was due to rust from water/rain seeping inside and down the outer cable jacket, I guarantee it will break in the future. I think storing it outside, and prior use of ethanol laced fuel is largely the cause of these problems. Hope you get it sorted. Thanks for watching.
@peteg6613
@peteg6613 2 жыл бұрын
Update: I removed the fuel line from the carb and drained all the fuel from the tank and got about 12oz of fuel even though i thought it was empty from the beginning. There was less than a trace of water, i then removed the tank so i can check the filter and blow out the fuel line, for some reason there was still fuel in the tank, tipping it over and upside down and all around i got about another 4 ounces, 95% of that was water, surprised me, blew out the tank and fuel line and removed carb, removed fuel bowl and it was 100% water, Reinstalled the gas tank and left fuel bowl off and reconnected fuel line, can see fuel coming out of the bottom of the carb, replaced bowl and attempted to start the mower, it started on 2nd pull, that was about 7 hrs ago, for the next hour after that it sometimes had trouble starting, needed 4 or 5 hard pulls, I just went to turn it on, it started on the 1st pull, in conclusion i believe the main issue was water in the tank and carb, after COMPLETELY cleaning fuel system out it works, I will replace the brake cable soon, and i did install a new Honda carb, not an after market so it will be stored it in garage. Thank you very much for the video again,

Oh no! Definitely check under the deck to make sure that belt is not jammed up. Could be a seized drive pulley, or some obstruction, twig, branch, pinecone, etc., stopping the belt. You should be able to pull on the belt easily, and see the wheels turning. Lift the drive wheels off the ground, pull the spark plug and see if everything turns easily. Hope this helps. Watching and commenting as i go. Huskavarnaaa. Love it. I gaurentee I would replace the torch plug. LOL For me those Honda carbs and gaskets are, new (my age). Too funny. I use air to mildly pressure tanks to drain. TIP Add a bit of alcohol to the tank to reduce time to dry. Pino Grigio bottles. We have a few of them around here. You are a prof? You could be !!! Pine sol in my Ultra sonic is a great idea. You use the separated system. I dunk my carbs into a full tank of whatever I think s the best. Guitar string brilliant. JIS screwdriver. I as well as you gap every plug as they can be dropped. I knew it would run!! Brilliant video.

Very nice clean up job. I usually add a dab of dielectric grease to the spark plug boot is all you could add to your regimen. Was the blade off on the last mow? I was expecting it to cut a nice pass but didn't look like it did much. Those stud idea was a nice touch for keeping the carb gaskets inline and in order for sure.

Thanks Mr Tim! If you watch any of my other tune-up videos, that is something I always do when I pull a plug. I prolly did that on this one, but I might have cut that out of the final? my gvc 160 mower has the big metal gasket and after the airbox gasket its a metal plate like 6'' long that goes down the whole side with the parts all built in, i bet if u see one like it you'll know just what im talking about. I did somehow manage to getit back on but needed to take it apart again so i just cut it with an angle grinder and made into a metal gasket(yes i removed the gas tank and put it somewhere else) It was definitely the way to go i shouldve just done that to begin with.

Your videos are great. You break it down with thorough explanation/demonstration. Any chance you have a part # for that gasket between the air box and the carburetor itself? I didn't realize it would be so fragile and it sort of broke/tore in half. I think maybe I shouldn't have sprayed it with carb cleaner and tried to wipe it.
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady 7 ай бұрын
Yep, that carb spray is pretty harsh. I'm a little reluctant to give you a part number. Therevare numerous iterations over the years. The best resource for you is to look up the engine model # (not the mower model #... Unless it's a Honda branded mower, then you do look the mower #... Confusing, I know, sorry). Put that model number on to most any major parts house: partstree, jackssmallengines, repairclinic, etc., to get the exact one you need. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
