Nice Radios. I have had both since the late 1970's. Hard for parts now. If the VCO goes good luck getting another. I wish some company would make a run of a couple of thousand VCOs. So many Cybernets just need a new VCO and are now dead in the cupboard. The "B" model is the same as the GE superbase and The "A" model is the same board as many other different branded CB radios that are Cybernet. The "B" model has so much trouble with cold solder joints and bad connections. It is great when it works but if you want a more reliable CB then go for the single board like the "A". My "B" model started getting bad solder joints 2 years from new. The "B" model is supposed to have a built in speech processor. The "B" model is called the best Cybernet ever made by many. Personally I would just by a good speech processed mike and get the single boarded Cybernet if the thought of a speech processor impresses you.. The receive on both is the same. But like I say this is my personal recommendations. I know as usual people will say throw both in the bin and buy a Uniden and others will say the "B" model is the best and no other comes close. The GEs are very nice looking Rigs that's for sure. The glue that holds the silver cap on the end of the black knobs gets old and the silver caps often come off.

Spectrum communications in the UK make replacements for both the green block type and the earlier metal vco blocks.

You can TOTALLY rebuild a VCO yourself. Getting the right core, if needed can be difficult, but any LOW permeability core can be used and tuned with patience. You need a scope to properly tune any vco, tho. I once used a wax coated paper soda straw for a replacement transformer. Just wrapped the wire from the original coil onto the straw and screwed the core in. When it was tuned I dabbed nail polish all over it.

Thanks for the offer but it took me way too long to run across these. I do think these are my favorites right now. Just good solid radios.

I still have my old Ge Am only Mobile radios I was using until the Galaxy Radios came out. They can have monster audio-some have the easy 02A chip. I plan on using one on my channel for Old Radio Night, on Saturday 8 PM EST on Ch 12. I will post the video after that. Thanks, 21

The A model is better just because if you get a cold solder joint in the b it has 2 boards and would be a nightmare to fix and work on so I'm glad I have the A
