HI Mike from Brenton VK3CM (ham call) or JDW229 (CB Call) in Tangambalanga North East Victoria in Australia,. I love your videos and learn a lot from them, even as a Technician, I never stop learning from your videos. I was a bit lazy working on a Tedelex TE7000 Cybernet chassis which is a pretty much the same as the GE you are working on in this video, and you jogged my memory from my apprentice ship days on the clarifier slides. I was reverse engineering a removal of a slide and was about to pull out my Sams manual and thought, I might cheat and check out a Mikes video. And yep, there it was, a quick Mikes refresher course on cybernet chassis that saved me a bunch of time. So many thanks mike, you were the encouragement to do a few videos on youtube and its been a bit of fun for sure. My channel is easy to find, just type brenton meadows into the search bar and the radio channel will come up, but boy, need some better camera equipment, your videos are far more professional. Learning every day, even at 55 years of age as a retired old guy.. haha...Thanks again for all your work, its so much appreciated. Cheers Brenton VK3CM/JDW229

I had this exact same radio (GE 3-5825A) in the 1980's-90's. I bought it used for $20 at a thrift store. I met my wife on it on cruise night, she was riding with friends and they had a CB in the car. She'd never used a CB in her life, and I was the first person she got to talk to :-) We've been married for 30 years and we have 4 kids now! The only mod I could get to works was to get the RC channels back. It put out almost 20Watts. Something fried in it in 1992 (a metal object went inside of it) and I couldn't find a schematic anywhere (before the Internet). It got thrown away, replaced by a newer radio. I have real ham radios now, so I don't need a modded CB for ham, BUT I sure do wish I could find another GE 3-5825A for a reasonable price for sentimental reasons

I sat down and reverse engineered the digi scan modules (both the binary/bcd version and the PLL version), and designed my own version with some extra options, like selectable home channel and broader range. Then I started working with Arduino and made it obsolete!

Those added inductors were too affected by the magnet on the speaker. The speaker had to go. Haha. Thanks for the great videos!

Usually the mistake is not done by inserting the plug the wrong way but in how one hooks up the wires to the power supply It appears to have the PTBM048AOX board. I just purchased a Rystl CB-4082, made in Japan, with that huge chunk of rock as 10.695 filter. I think it was a good purchase for 15 USD

I recently bought one of these, works well but it has a bit of a carrier signal on USB without me speaking into the standard mic. What can I look at to stop this from occurring because its not there on LSB?

Hi from Australia Mike, found your channel recently and loving the videos, theyve helped me a lot. Im an electronics novice (perhaps "advanced" novice) and its been great to see your troubleshooting process in particular. Quick question, have you ever seen a GE "a3-5819a"? Its an 18 channel AM unit and I suspect "Australian market" as im having real trouble finding a manual for it. Any thoughts?
@mikesradiorepair6 жыл бұрын
Most likely it's exactly the same as the US model but with one difference, the channel selector. It will have a 18 position rotary switch where the US version would have a 40 position switch.

It would have been far cheaper and be further ahead if they had just bought something like a RCI2950, Lincoln II+, or any of the modern Chinese made non RCI/Galaxy exports! IF the unit was working and not butchered I could see it. Maybe he was talking to and listen for Ghosts...LOL Talking to the Spirt Realm! LOL I like my old school SSB radio's but I am not into basket cases! LOL

Kill that damn 1000 Hz signal when you are talking. Very annoying 1000 Hz signal through the radio when you're talking. Where do you get a REDCO Digi - Scan 02? I want one.
