I did this to mine and it really does work. I ordered the same stuff from Amazon like he did. Only difference is I only did the top and rear part of the filter housing. I tried doing all three sides but there's too much friction taking the filter in and out and I feel like that friction will begin to wear the insulation out in no time. Doing just the top and the rear works great. I will say this trick has eliminated probably 98% of the lint that was being bypassed on to the coil. Its pretty rare I see any lint on my coil after this mod. The other suggestion I would say is to leave the filter out of the machine when the machine isn't being used. Otherwise I feel like the insulation will get compressed over time from the filter being constantly in the machine.

Ive seen people use pile weather seals, which has furry fibers instead of foam. It would have less friction and would accomplish the same thing, but i havent tried it out.

I applaud this person for coming up with a solution, but someone with a brand new machine shouldn’t have to be doing this! These machines are expensive and it should be the responsibility of the manufacturer to put out a quality product that can be used without “hacks.” I’m getting aggravated with all these machines that are not designed well, and do not last as long as previous appliances. In my opinion they are not worth the money!

Great video and insight. Any updates will be appreciated. I read you put two strips on the back but it's not in the video. so had one to the back and then wrap over all three sides, to include the back strip as u did? BTW was there a reason you ended up adding a second strip to the back?

Yeah I have one long strip covering the top/back/bottom, and a second strip for the back so that the width is completely covered. At 2:01, you can see that the rear of the compartment has a rectangular channel - I just wanted to fill it up because I saw lint building up over there.

Heyo... Great video and fix! I noticed in you updated video, that you now how the back 1 inch form modified to be shorter and curved? Why is that and should we be doing it as well?

Not sure what youre asking… the foam goes all around the back. I actually added two strips in the back, side by side but its not in the video.

How has this been working? How is the unit overall, I think it'd be nice to set a timer for 4am and have laundry ready to go before work. Lower power consumption and cheaper power too.

It's working fine - foam is still intact and heat exchanger fins are still clean. I like the combo alot, its definitely better than having two machines. You just have to be vigilant about cleaning the filter every time. I find that the lint is wet after a complete cycle - so you have to clean it off asap or else itll start to smell.

You’re using a double side foam where you don’t need the second side.

It is single sided. I just left the wax paper on for easy gliding.

Is it safe to use the foam at high temperatures? I'm concerned it could catch fire.
@fluxwood3 ай бұрын
I dont see a temperature rating for the one I used, but there hasnt been issues so far. The air going through the filter is very moist from the wash cycle.
