Pinned comment for future updates: -Feb 2024: after maintaining a very strict lint cleaning protocol, the machine is doing a sufficient job of drying our clothes. While I’d still say it leaves the laundry 1-5% damp, most of the time that’s fine and we’re making it work. -April 2024: This machine SUCKS! Stay far far away. We have been staying on top of every single maintenance tip and trick every single day (I literally manually clean and hand vacuum the lint screen after every single load), and what do you know, loads are STILL left completely soaked after a "drying cycle". Just pathetic. I stick a flashlight inside the "dryer vent" portal, and it looks filled up with lint gunk AGAIN, all over the blue fins, in the back corners, huge wet moist lint clogs, beyond unacceptable. Truly a defective machine that deserves a recall.

You have a one year warranty on this machine. Call Ge they will send a technician to troubleshoot. Mine was a what I call Lemon montage. Ge came to repair it over 3 times. It still didn’t work correctly. I was so upset after 3 months of no washer/dryer. When I called Ge I had no words I started crying. They ended up replacing with a brand new one. Just got it on Monday, so far no problems

Try this game changer - Turn the machine on, hit normal, then select timed dry for 1h 30 minutes. Then press and hold the normal button to save this as default. This completely solved for damp clothes and the machine still uses 1/3 of the energy of our old washer and dryer. I think the sensor dry option is way to liberal in determining when clothes are "dry" and hopefully this is something they can fix in a firmware update.

Same, actually had to enable "Eco Dry" in the menu to keep from over-drying (oddly that menu option does not persist). With that setting though clothes come out as described, a quick shake and dry. Clothes are always hot. We do clean the filter after every use and do not see lint building up on the radiator fins, there is a little at the far end but nothing like shown in this video. Could be we tend to run smaller loads as there's only two of us.

Sorry you experienced this problem. We got our GE Profile all in one for around $1800 from Costco last November and love it. As others have posted, we did change our washing habits. Moved to more loads with smaller quantities than less large loads. Wash clothes of similar weight and material seems to help eg jeans with shirts will leave something damp. Since you don't have to transfer clothes, you can set the load up to start at 530 am and you will have dry clothes at 730 am. You save money on the electricity your old dryer used as well as the expense of reconditioning conditioned air that the old dryer vented out of the house. And this unit is much gentler on fabrics due to the lower heat. You will have noticed there is no static in the clothes which is a problem I faced with my old dryer. Keeping my fingers crossed that the machine continues to work, but I got the 5 year extended warranty from Costco "just in case". Thanks for sharing your experience! And good luck for the future!

I was seeing A LOT of drying complaints all over the internet about this thing. Then I found a Reddit thread about it and someone noticed the manual said to not have the drain hose more than 7" into the drain and for the fit to not be too tight because it creates a siphon effect and kills the drying ability. There were a ton of people on that thread who checked their drain hose, the installers had just shoved the hose way down into the drain and once they pulled it back to spec, their machines started drying way better. I'm not saying this is the problem with yours, but something for people to keep in mind if they are having trouble with their machine drying their clothes.

You can clearly see in the video that his drain line is like 5" into the thing @ 9:02. These first gen units are clearly flawed. It's why new ones are adding a rinse cycle to all those parts that get gunked up. And washing down the soapy water and lint down the drain is going to plug your drains eventually so add in the cost of a plumber to rod the drain or your time to do it yourself.

We've had ours a few months and it's changed how we do laundry. Early on we experimented after having some issues where some clothes were drying more than others. If you're having clothes not dry 100%, maybe try separating clothes by type a lot more. We've gone a little overboard, but have none of the issues you're experiencing. We always use the more dry option and add wrinkle care because we don't always get to it right away when done and it'll keep the drum spinning a few RPM while cooling off completely. Our clothes types are: t-shirts, towels, jeans, pants and sweatshirts, socks and underwear, whites, and delicates. It's just my wife and I and we do maybe three loads a week or so.

I don't know what you are putting in each load, what products you put into the detergent/softener compartments or if you just have a bad unit, but this is not our experience. Also, I'd compare the "wet" laundry to a Bosch dishwasher. There is enough energy stored in any remaining moisture that taking the clothing out into a home environment flashes off any remaining moisture. You implication that shaking the clothes violently is over stated. Simply removing the clothes and flattening to fold will do the trick. KZbin watcher Beware!

I bought this from Best Buy back in August of 2023. I encountered the exact same problem initially with this thing not fully drying our clothes, but after a couple of software updates, our GE Profile always gets our clothes perfectly dry every time. No exaggeration! Completely dry, everytime! In our situation, only the big and bulky comforters are the exception. We no longer experience that damp feeling in our clothes using this machine like we always did right after the purchase. I don’t know what GE did in the software update, but this thing works perfect for us. I do feel like it runs longer to dry than before and I would assume that it may use more watts than advertised now. But I absolutely LOVE this thing with the current software that it’s been running on for months.

There are so many variables. Types of clothing, mixed clothing, etc. I would absolutely not clean the filter every time, doing so will allow clumps of lint to get by the main filter onto the coil. I have modified the filter and zero lint gets by the cartridge. following the recommended notification, is sufficient, for I believed most people washing. Those with pets, may opt to do it sooner, but not every load, this will just cause more of a mess on the coil.

@@Kne2450 It’s all 100% removable. Look at what customers are going through with the lint issue getting worse after every Load washed. Also, people are damaging their coil by shoving vacuum cleaners in there. Even the brush can cause damage if you’re not careful. The solution is to make sure you have a clean coil to start with and then install the kit or make one up on your own and stop the problem from happening altogether. I’d like to see them fight me on the warranty issue personally on my own washer, Since my solution prevents damage, their factory unit creates damage. on their part, it’s all about the dollars. If you’re concerned about warranty, if the unit goes belly up, remove the strips, clean the rails, have them come over, serve them tea and cookies while they fix it. Some of us probably know more about the machine Thanks to Ben, and other channels out there then the installers or service techs who come to fix them. It’s a great machine when the kinks are worked out. First year model, you can expect many things to happen. The good news is, they could do over the air updates as far as wash cycles, and any software challenges.

You mentioned it already but Bens Appliances and Junk filter cartridge mod works well. Instead of electrical tape, I've been using clear silicon to seal the gaps around the black foam filter. When it's time to wash the foam filter, the clear silicon usually peels off in 2 or 3 long strands. After each use, I stick a Swiffer Duster with an extendable handle inside the filter compartment then thoroughly vacuum the filter cartridge. I've had my GE since Jan 2024 and still no ragrets.

Its a really great concept. I bought one in September 2023 and it is amazing to start a load and wake up to dry clothes. I also love the energy saving aspects to reduce costs. Unfortunately 3 months after getting mine, it stopped heating and I am now entering my 4th month of it not working after 4 visits from techs that aren't familiar with the machine (and we live near Atlanta so you wouldn't think that would be an issue), waiting for weeks on backordered parts, and now they are saying I need to have the entire heat exchanger replaced. My wife is frustrated beyond belief and I wish I had never purchased this unit. All I get is the runaround and no resolution from anyone. This morning she indicated that it isn't even draining all the water and there isn't a way to run just a spin cycle like you can with other units to try and get it to re-spin the clothes dry so we can then move them into our old dryer to dry them like we have been doing for the past 4 months. And yes, we have checked the drain filter isn't clogged, enough clearance, etc as well as have the 4 techs. I regrettably recommend you avoid this model.

We got ours from Costco in November of 2023 for under $2000 (including sales tax, delivery, hookup ...). I was experiencing similar issues with the lint build up. I crafted a 1" PVC pipe extension that attaches to my Dyson to clean the lint out and keep a flashlight next to GE Profile. Other than the crazy vacuuming maintenance, the GE Profile has been great. I knew going in that there would be issues -- I also watched Ben's Appliance before purchasing --so, I kept my original washer and dryer. I've only used my original unit twice. I really like your attachment with camera. I think I will make one of those instead. I still leave the door open until it fully dries. I also leave the filter out to let that compartment dry too.

I've had mine for almost a year. You definitely have to clean the filter after every load and wash the filter every couple weeks (if you do laundry every day). I also use a brush to clean out the cavity around the filter about once a month. The only time we have ever had problems with the clothes getting dry is when the load is larger than the recommended size in the instruction manual. This took some getting used to because it is less than half the load size we used in our previous washer. So we have to do more loads than with a standard washer and dryer. However, even with the extra maintenance and smaller loads, I am able to keep the laundry caught up which is something I have never been able to do with the two machine system. It just feels like less work overall.

It happened to me too. When I lowered the drain hose to the floor to drain. It is a night and day difference when it comes to drying efficiency. It becomes so much better in the drying department. I think the trick is the drain hose should be lower than the machine, not higher. In washing mode this does not matter. But in drying mode the machine dries better maybe because it drains the water out more quickly because the hose is lower than the machine. It so happened that my area has a floor drain so I just lay the hose flat on the ground and drain he goes.

@rw7567

The reason this works is because it allows the machine to fully drain. If the drain hose is higher, there will be some residual water left in the drum which will force the machine to do more work when drying bc the machine must first evaporate the residual water before it starts to actually dry the clothes.

I've had mine for about a year, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I have no issues with loads drying, as long as you don't overfill the machine. If you are having issues with your combo, check your drain hose as others have suggested. If that appears fine, only fill up the machine up 2/3 of the way and try that out. If there's minimal airflow going around your cloths while drying, you will see poor drying performance. You will also have this problem with a traditional dryer.

One thing I can say is don't mix towels with regular stuff and don't overload it. Mine did come with a scratched door. GE sceduled a visit in a week. Part was on backorder for a few weeks, but had no issues getting it replaced.

Man I'm glad I watched this video. I was looking at machine today as the dryer at my house we rent out broke down again. I was looking at this companies used section and the had one of these in there. Asked the lady why this brand new GE Profile was sitting with all the other used machines and she said it needed repairs because it fell off the truck from up high. She said it's not drying properly. She said once they fix it they'll probably list it for $899. Which of course got my attention because I seen the one on the New show room floor at $2800. Thanks to this video I won't be buying the GE Profile.

Dryer drum sizes in the US is 7.4 cu/ft. This drum is only 4.8 cu/ft. That makes a big difference. We're too used to stuffing the machine full. You can't do that with these. Whatever size load you used to wash, cut that in half for better drying. You're actually doing more work, not less with these machines.

As an appliance specialist I'd like remind everyone that doing laundry is a simple pocess (from an appliance perspective) that manufacturers have decided (for financial gain not unlike smart phone makers) to turn into gadgets desinged to illicit the gee wezz response we see above. Reliability has plummeted. Repair specialists (my son in law included) often find repairing expensive (good luck when your "limited "one year warranty expires) not worth fixing resulting in in replacement thereby starting the cycle again. Question. Do you really care if your washer is in "Brushed Black or Graphic Steel" finishs? Finally, as with all large capacity washers, there's the temptation is to "over load" the unit leading to poorer performance and earlier failure. To much more to list but I hope you get the idea.

I have had mine now for 6 months only had that issue in the beginning when I was learning it. I spoke to someone who actually built the machines due to my job at Verizon I get all kinds of people who call in for our services and this gentleman works in the facility that makes them. I told him about my drying issue he educated me on the machine and how it dries. Now that I know that it's not a normal dryer with full heat and it's closer to you air drying your clothes on a very windy day is the words he used. I plan my loads of laundry accordingly this helps dry time as well as keeping the washer/dryer from overloads and not drying at all. The separation of heavy clothes and bedding and towels works best for this machine I learned. And if you leave the door open after it's done for about 15+ mins you don't have to do all the shaking of each piece of laundry. These were my take aways from this washer dryer combo I named him ray lol.

Lint filter construction is definitely faulty in this machine. We have had one for four months now and ours works just fine, but that is because I noticed the lint issue after one load and modified the lint filter so that it seals well now. The problem is not the filter itself, but that it doesn't seal to the housing. Lint can get passed the filter frame and clog the heat exchangers. GE needs to redesign the filter assy to fix this problem. I fixed this by adding extra seals to outer perimeter of the filter assy.

I've been really happy with ours so far. The clothes do feel slightly "damp" when I take them out, but I've found that if I give each item a quick shake as i take them out, they feel pretty normal after that. I think the damp feeling is just from steam that gets caught in the clothes or something.

I've had this machine from the 1st day it was available in June 2023. Not having any of these issues. It requires a change in thinking VS traditional machines. Yes the clothes are dry but people are conditioned to that hot out of the oven dryer feeling which this energy efficient heat pump doesn't do. The lint buildup is something to keep an eye on and it's good to invest in a dryer vent brush to get in there to loosen stuff to be shopvaced out. Great machine and has made doing a load a day a piece of cake.

Thanks for the honest review. Even if a person does not own one of those - it's very obvious to any rational human being that it has a flawed design which lets a lot of lint to bypass the filter. Something that also happens on almost every natural gas-powered dryer, but is not a major issue for them because most of it gets blown out of exhaust vent to the outside of the house (we had LG natural gas-powered dryer for over 15 years now, I have never had to clean anything except removable filter and there is no lint accumulation in any exhaust duct parts which I have thoroughly checked last year). Some better heat pump dryer manufacturers (some European companies as well as LG) at least add evaporator coil washing system where the dryer cascades water over the front area of evaporator coil to wash some of the lint away, but unfortunately GE was too lazy to add it to this machine... Maybe in next version they will.

You may not be alone with your dryer problems since I have heard other YT videos claim the same thing. That said, we have had one for several months now. I just throw in an unsorted load of work-clothes and have even included a bath towel or two - I know that, at times, I tend to overload a washing machine and I'm sure I have done the same with this one. I clean the filter every time just as we did with the electric dryer. I use the normal setting and hit start - that's it. Others in my family have not changed the amount or type of clothes they wash/dry in this machine. I have not experienced damp/wet clothes. Mine have been dry when I remove them from the machine every time. The only difference I have noticed is that, if I remove the clothes as soon as the load is finished, the clothes are not scorching hot when I pull them out like they are from the electric dryer - but they are just as dry.

The way the garment bunch together is from the wash cycle, so no matter how long it tumbles in the drying cycle, heat would not evenly distribute and the sensor only detects the moisture on the surface of that "ball of clothes". One thing my mother taught me about laundry is to shake them out while you're throwing them into the dryer, you'll use less energy and time to dry the same amount of clothes. This type of machines just can't separate/fluff things up for drying with the amount of clothes you're misled to believe they can handle each load.

@@AuthenTech That's unfortunate and negates the main appeal for purchasing an all-in-one machine. We purchased a new Samsung machine with moisture sensor too within the last year, this feature doesn't seem as "smart" as they want you to believe. If the clothes were little damp, pressing "more dry" often would run the machine for a few minutes then stop. To save the trouble, I only do time dry now.

As well as having an extra filter just before the fins. The first version of my Hotpoint tumble dryer didn't have the extra cleaning penal. But they now have a massive panel that comes out allowing unrestricted access to the cooling and heating fins for cleaning.

I guess you didn't understand the no-air-vent concept. And no one told you about emptying the water out. You need to look into that. I've had the LG washer dryer for 7 years. Mine dries very well. At first, it feels moist, but you give it one shake and it's dry. It's humidity. You have to understand that the moist air is not going out of a vent. It stays in, but it dries, but not as fast. With the LG, you have the option of using an air vent, but I chose not to. Mine works fine. You have to empty the water out at least every other wash. Only takes a couple of minutes. It's worth not having to have a separate washer and dryer.
