Thanks for posting this. I had trouble getting the wires off the old element, but by using a leather glove for a better grip and pulling and wiggling for a while, I was eventually able to get them off. They slipped onto the new element with almost no effort. As careful as I was to try and avoid letting the wires slip back in the wall, one of them still got away from me, so I had to pull the oven out and take the back off, but it was no big deal. There were 5 screws holding on the center plate, and once I took that off, it was obvious which wires I was looking for.

Thank you posting this repair. I just completed it this morning and saved myself a lot of money. My only cost was The replacement part costing me about $40.00.

The gloves are an important tool for this process. Something in there bit me while I struggled to get the old element out (I think it was the top of the plate on the element. It got me good, but it wasn't a bleeder so I think keep it clean and it will heal very quick). Turns out there was very tiny metal pins pushing up through holes on the element which secures the connection. With gloves it was much easier to push this pin down and the old element wiggled right off. Trying to make sure my wires don't go back through but I found things that triggered my military cleanliness OCD in places that were hard to reach with an element in there lol

I used a zip tie on each wire before disconnecting from element so they couldn't slip back through the hole.

Excellent video, GE. Great name and reliability. I still have two perfectly working electrical kettles, stainless steel...from about 60 years ago. One of the best and free methods of advertising....is word of mouth from a proud owner.

Easy as pie. Note #1 - the wires are about 2 inches long, so pull gently to get them fully extended. Note #2 - My model only required a 1/4" nut driver to remove the screws. The element itself slid out and into little housings - no screws attaching the wires to the element. This do-it-myself saved me $100 trip charge + labor charge.

How hard was it to slide the element out of the little housing, because I’m having a really hard time. I’m really giving a good tug and it’s not budging
@rabbidpc3 жыл бұрын
@@peacebear222 Not hard at all in my experience. Turn off electricity to stove, remove screws. Pull wires out an inch. Hold wire with one hand, pull element with other.

My Hotpoint model has the same element replacement steps, but the wires are so short and anchored so tightly, that instructions to remove the center back panel (two 1/4" hex head screws) would have saved us an hour and two sets of sore knees. In fact, I suggest removing the panel first and if there are two people available, have one person push the wires through from the back to make the connections easier.

Thank you for posting this. So why do the directions say you need a philips head screwdriver? Looks like just the nut driver is required.

Let us look into this and get back with you, Adam. We apologize for any confusion. Thanks - TH

Okay thank you - I had a thought after posting this that perhaps on some ovens the element is held in with phillips screws instead of nut screws? No idea if this is plausible or not, just one possibility I guess.
@geappliances7 жыл бұрын
That is certainly possible, Adam. Once we hear back from research, we will clarify. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this, Adam. The Phillips head screwdriver is not required for this repair as indicated. We are working to get the video updated as soon as possible. We apologize for any convenience this may have caused. - TH

You don't need the screwdriver if you do it this way, however if you want to be extra safe and unplug the stove and you can remove the back panel (with the screwdriver) and disconnect the wires from the back instead of pulling them through from the front. This will also ensure your wires are back in the correct place.
@peacebear2223 жыл бұрын
So, I can’t seem to disconnect the part. How hard do I have to tug on that connecting wire piece? I don’t want to break it but it’s not budging
@peacebear2223 жыл бұрын
I did finally get it off, but the second wire fell through the back. I ended up taking the back panel off which was actually not hard at all and was able to replace the coil easily enough. Thank you for everyone’s help.

I'm having the same problem getting the wires to slip off of the old element like they do in the video. They're not budging. If you have any tips, I'd love to hear them. I'm worried I'm going to break something. Thanks.
@jeremyphillips78273 жыл бұрын
Never mind. I used a leather glove to get a better grip of the connectors and wiggled and pulled and they eventually came off. Slipping them onto the new element was as easy as in the video, though.

I should have looked at your video before I tried change the heating element; the connector wires got pushed back into the oven wall. I tried to reach them with fingers and tweezers and just pushed them further out of reach. How do I find them from behind?

you don't have to call a repair service. the same thing just happened to me. pull the stove out from the wall and the back has a cover held with usually 5 screws the same size as what was in the oven. removed those and you will expose the wiring. mine was so short (which is why it came off in the 1st place) I couldn't get it pushed through the rectangular hole inside the oven. therefore, push the connector terminals from the heating element through the hole inside the oven and connect them from the back of the stove.

If you want to remove the oven door for safety and/or to insure it doesn't get damaged, you need a flathead screwdriver to move the "catches" on each inside corner. If you have to remove the back of the range, you'll need the phillips screwdriver.
