Tip to everyone, make sure you shop around. I've seen these elements as high as the $80's and less than $10 - mine was maybe $12. I did my repair and oven cleaning today and I THANK YOU for doing the repair through the back if the oven, versus the panel in the back.

@@MarkThomasBuilder I heard you say it was $45. I had stopped at a local appliance store and they were in the range of $25-50 (I didn't find out about mine in particular). This video was very helpful. My heating element went out on Thanksgiving day while I was cooking. I had everything cooked except my sweet potato pie. I saw a small orange spark and at the time I didn’t know what was wrong but I turned off my oven and let it cool that way but that didn’t really do much but when I unplugged it that seem to help cool it down faster. I left it unplugged and went to Lowe’s only to be told they didn’t sell them in the stores anymore so I found a place online up in Philadelphia that sold it for around $12. My total cost was $24 and some change which was cheap considering trying to find that part online at other places they were asking $39 and $58. I ordered my part on Saturday and got it Tuesday. Installing it was simple and quick just like in the video and it help that I have the same stove too. It started smoking a lil bit but that was normal. I just put it on 200 and let it warm and after the smoke faded out I was good to go. Thank you for sharing. Much cheaper than calling a repairman and paying an arm and a leg to get it fixed lol.

Usually your oven door comes right off, giving better access to change the element and when the element comes out, it's a good time to clean any large deposits off the floor which makes the self-clean easier.

Good video. I'm going to try it. Am I the only one who didn't know you should never put aluminum foil on the bottom of your electric oven? I've done it for years, today I learned the hard way it's a no no. The only thing I would say about this video is that you could have taken the oven door off very easily and it would have been easier to reach the screws. Thanks.

Sharon I COMPLETELY agree about the door removal. With my GE stove manufactured in December 1998 the door removal was an easy lift up off these brackets and back on. I saw someone else comment that it 5 or so screws were involved so I really lucked out with the lift up/drop down door removal.

Avoid using self clean. It pushes the oven to its limits and often results in a service call. The worst result I ever saw from an oven where the customer ran self clean was when the 900°F temperature deformed the bottom of the oven such that the oven door would no longer seat right. The range had to be replaced.... Better to put a pan inside with water and then bring it to a boil for a steam clean...

Well first do a little research to make sure you get an oven heating element that matches your range/oven. the name and model number can usually be found on the lower right hand corner of the door. Either unplug the oven or turn off the power at the circuit breaker. And it is usually easier to access the back of the oven if you first remove the oven door. A lot more information can usually be found by visiting the manufactures website under support.

ok... what he didn't tell you was that the 2 black wires on the left side of the element... that wire has 120 volts constantly to it, no matter if the oven is turn of or not. The yellow wire is 120 volts coming down from the replay and is only energized when you turn the oven on bake or self clean. But... power is always there if the appliance is plugged in on the black wires bottom element.

Video was very helpful. Only one question after i instolled new heating element it does not quite touching the bottom of the oven. Is it going to be a problem?
@MarkThomasBuilder3 жыл бұрын
I think mine did that at first. I believe once I used it a few times, it eventually settled and rested on the bottom. Let me know how it goes.👍

My old Thermador has a 3 prong plug back there. My problem is the plug is eroded and no longer makes contact. I think the socket may have issues as well. Where can you get parts for that?

My element just started sparking and then went out. It's likely that my element had a split like yours did and started arcing (I need to look at it again after it cools down completely). Here's hoping that I only need to replace the element and it's not something more serious, like faulty wiring!!
@MarkThomasBuilder3 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it's just the element needing replacement. Please let me know how it works out..

@@MarkThomasBuilder Yeah, it was just the element. Easy fix, and thanks for your help!!

Hi, thank you for sharing this! I'm having a hard time finding the right one to unscrew the element and I was wondering if you can share the type of philips screwdriver you used for this video or the link to buy it?
@MarkThomasBuilder3 жыл бұрын
Sure, I'm using a stubby ratcheting screwdriver with a 1/4" bit. Here's a link to a similar one that I'm currently using, which is my favorite... amzn.to/38Sne4w. You also need a 1/4" bit, here's a link for one of my new favorite ones for that... amzn.to/2JxtsON. Hope that helps!

Next time you need to do work inside oven, Remove the Door so it's easier to get inside. I get to do this on my oven over the next week after I get the element.
@MarkThomasBuilder3 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. I have a self-cleaning oven and think the door is more difficult to remove. I recall standard ovens where the door comes off easy.

No but it was glowing brighter than it was suppose to in one spot. Probably it was about to fail. Stove got hit by lightning later on and now does not work at all. Now using countertop oven and portable burners.
@MarkThomasBuilder7 жыл бұрын
Wow, not sure what to say if it was hit by lightning... My bake element was an easy fix and works great now.

When changing this model of GE YOU MUST turn the power off. The black leads connecting to the element are continuously live!!! The yellow wire to the element is switched at the knob! The black wire can shock you if the power is not OFF!!!

This happened tonight at my sister's house. I baked a pizza in her oven. Afterwards, the element starting making a noise, then started on fire. She blamed it on me, but I guess it happens eventually. It's a built-in wall oven that's been in her house since 1991.
@MarkThomasBuilder8 ай бұрын
Yes, I was surprised when it happened to my oven, but I guess it's more common than what you might think. It's definitely not your fault. I'm not sure if the self cleaning ovens wear out faster, but I'm guessing that they do.

It’s usually pretty easy to remove the oven door. Making this repair seems like it would have been easier with the door removed

Hi Mark. I was replacing the bake element on my GE oven but have come to realize that one of the metal connectors that the element connects to is burnt up and need to replaced too. What are those called? I am having trouble finding them.
@MarkThomasBuilder3 жыл бұрын
It's a wire disconnect end that you're referring to. That's too bad that it burnt.

My element doesn't have screws but nuts holding it in and I am having a time trying to get them out.
@MarkThomasBuilder7 ай бұрын
One thing I may not have mentioned is that you can normally take the oven door off pretty easy. That might help while working on it.

Looks like your heating element is like mine where you have to actually screw it in as opposed to snap it on. I can’t seem to find a heating element that has holes big enough for screws to fit through it. The only thing I can find is a snap on element. Where did you get yours?? Any ideas? Thank you!

I replaced mine two times now. The first one was from a local appliance parts place and charged double the price. The most recent is from Amazon.
