When Luffy is in gear 2 mode, Luffy pumps up his blood flow, so he is faster. When Luffy is in gear 3 mode, Luffy pumps his bones, so he grows like a giant. When Luffy is in gear 4 mode, Luffy pumps up his muscles and skin, and adds the power of Haki, so that he can remain elastic even if the enemy uses Haki too. Luffy flies using the moon walk skill from CP9. The tattoo on Luffy's chest is the effect of the way Luffy uses his Haki.

I always loved the Kabuki stance and the Kabuki style "Gear Fourth" pronunciation. I remember A LOT of Kabuki styled merch in Mugiwara store back then. It was strange as it was before the reveal in the manga, I think. And a lot of people thought that it was connected to Wano. They were wrong lol And the colour spread of the manga was also with zombies, reminding the readers about Thriller Bark and Nightmare Luffy.

To the TGL bros at 27:50 , a "culverin" is an old artillery weapon that gave later the hand held arquebus in the 15th century. It's a ancestor of the modern guns. You were still right when you asked what animal is that because the name originates from the french "couleuvre" meaning grass snake and the latin "colubrinus" wich mean "nature of a snake". So you have a SNAKE now, hence the follow up with "Puthon".

The English sub is horrible as always for this reveal. In Japanese, German, and some other languages its "Gear" and then "Fourth". In English its "Fourth" and then "Gear" which is always a slight mood killer as it spoilers the hype moment.

You’re only saying this because of the power of retrospective thinking. Nobody reading the manga at the time (you can go and check since most of those live reactions are still on youtube) thought it either when he did it. The most people thought was “huh he must be doing a weird haki strat with his forearm”. Everyone was SHOCKED when he said “Gear…..FOURTH” because that was supposed to be THE indicator. Only AFTERWARDS did people go “OH YEAH IT MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH HIS FOREARM NOW” So no, the forearm was not enough. Its only a clue in retrospect, not in the moment

I always hated how the localization messes up the subtitles and names of moves. Even if it's a matter of seconds, saying 'Gear' before the number is a HUGE factor in the storytelling method. Similarly I hate how they changed Chopper's 'Points' to 'Boost'. To say nothing of the entirety of Bon Clay and Ivanakov and their group. There's just so many needless and pointless changes they make with the localization.

For me Luffy inflates himself to the limit and uses haki to harden outside and keep the volume low. He has the bounciness of a balloon on the verge of explosion but haki prevents the explosion.

Gear Fourth ~ Bounceman mode actually already been forshadowed during Triller Bark arc when Luffy use it as the last attack against giant Gecko Moria. Gear Fourth is a technique that was achieved as a result of past Luffy battle against some Antagonist. some of them is CP9 and Gecko Moria.

Some tidbits about G4. When he is that form he is 4 Meters tall (13"4'), while in normal form he is 1.72M. Also Luffy is capable of using Moonwalk (from CP9) in this form aswell to fly through the sky (same as Sanji, but called Skywalk)
