What is with the blur? All that gear would be an awesome background.

Thanks for sharing what gear you use to film. That is one serious camera, if it’s that big in 2023 you know it’s serious. I am still in the early stages of my KZbin era, filming with an IPhone 14 and a cheap tripod. I have yet to even get the selfie stick, and while I have multiple videos doing outdoors stuff I don’t even have every piece of gear for my Fall Florida backpacking trips I will be filming.

Always interesting to see what systems people use based on their priorities - mobility, image quality or variety of shot styles. Love that 360 shot from the morning ski out!

Any suggestions on a simple camera with enough zoom to match what my eyes see from distance? The Go Pro looks light years away. A decent price, inexperienced user friendly and a bit durable or at least not delicate. Thanks

Good video. And I vote YES to the "running at the camera as the tripod tips over" compilation! Even if it's a short.

It is pretty incredible how much camera gear one can accumulate over the years for youtube. I have a pile of it as well, And I find myself using my phone the most. Lol

Your -55 celsius has got to be with windchill as I am much father north than you are and we haven't had a -55 yet this winter. As someone who has own many different systems over past 10 years I am glad you went with Fuji. I have A new FF Sony but miss my fuji gear. Cheers from NWT.

-50 was last winter. This winter, it was -40 (maybe lower). The oil and battery froze in my car. I might go Sony next time, that AF and the ocmpactness is hard to beat!

You can avoid your camera tipping over by using the hook below the middle column and hang your water from that. If I'm using just a smart water bottle I'll duct tape a carabiner to it. A 1 liter bottle is 2.2 lbs which is more than enough to anchor a tripod. In higher winds the legs need to be set wider. There is nothing worse than seeing the tripod tip over that's for sure.

Hi Justin, Thanks for sharing your filming gear. What software do you use to edit your videos? Do you edit on the trail? Any recommended video editing apps for mobile?

I edit using Premiere Pro. While on the GDT, I edited on trail using VN Editor.

When you film with the phone, what resolution do you use and how large are your SD cards?
@JustinOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I film in 4k/60 and have 256gb of storage on the phone. A 4-day trip usually uses around 50-80gb.

I’m late to the party… I appreciate all of this! Question… Sorry if I missed this, but what frame rate do you use? I have been using 1080p and 60fps, but want to shoot in 4k without taking up as much storage. I was thinking about going down to 30fps, but I really love how smooth panning is with 60fps and I’m afraid it will start looking kinda choppy or blurred when the camera is moving a lot, if that makes sense. Thoughts?
@JustinOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I shoot talking head stuff in 4k/30 and b-roll in 4k/60
@ManivanAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@JustinOutdoors Gotcha, makes sense. I was hoping you would say 30fps because your videos look great! Lol Looks like I’ll just have to suck it up and use the extra storage. Thank you!

Not sure what happened, but at 23:14 it looked like you lost a few video frames and the sound started dropping out (I.e., I could see your lips moving, but only irrational sounds). Update (a few hours later)...looks like you fixed it!
