I have seen people cut the bag once the meal is ready make it shorter. They can then eat the meal with a normal spoon.

But you can't re- seal it after your done. Don't know if that helps with smell but it keeps the mess to a minimum in my trash bag.

Titanium nail pegs are the GOAT in the winter. They don’t freeze into the ground like aluminum.

I fully agree on the Smartwool socks. I switched to Darn Tough years ago and never looked back. Far superior IMO.

This author's LT-4's are over five-years old with thousands of miles on them (same as LT-5's, but two-piece instead of three). On third set of tips. Handles almost done though. GG stopped carrying replacement handles. Looking at Cascade, if they only had GG-handles... ** HydroBlu filter is smaller, lighter, has built-in sealable ends and built-in threads on both ends. No storage ziplock to keep gear dry, no adapter rings and no sport-caps to reverse-flow for cleaning. Yes Squeeze only weighs 40% more by itself, but by the time one adds all the bits and bags, Squeeze is too fiddly and bulky. HydroBlu has the second fastest flow-rate, only to Squeeze. Well worth it for ease-of-use, simplicity and packability.

You definitely need to try the katadyn be free filter if you haven’t. Switched from sawyer squeeze which was great but be free is more convenient and flows great

I have never had smartwool socks wear out in the four years I've been wearing them. I think they will eventually, but I am a fan.

Yeah, I don't get the hate either. I use Smartwool hiking, running, and casual/dress socks and have not come close to wearing out a pair in 3 years.

The BIC lighters failed me in Wyoming last year. Exact same problem, wouldn't light (most of the time) at altitude. Had two lighters and neither one worked. Cheap Amazon stove wouldn't work at altitude either, but works great in Ohio.

I think we can call it a day on the carbon fiber and titanium parts. They dont work. Completely unnecessary and too expensive. Aluminum is perfectly fine.

Komperdell C3 Cloud Pro Carbon Trekking poles FTW. Only grams heavier than the Gossamer Gear/Black Diamond top tier models and they warranty EVERYTHING, no questions asked. I've never broken poles, even when I thought I should have, but they stand behind their products. The way they roll their carbon is superior to Cascade Mountain (which I also have) and they are a bit more comfortable. Budget not being an issue, the Komperdell are really phenomenal poles. They don't market as heavily in the US (yet) but they are exceptionally popular in Europe and elsewhere in the world.

I got super sick after eating the Mountain House scrambled eggs and uncured bacon meal on a trip last year for breakfast. Not sure, maybe I didn't let them soak long enough or something? The eggs did have a bit of a packing peanut consistency when I ate it. Yeah, but not good. Breakfast skillet isn't bad, but I'd rather go with the biscuits and gravy or granola. Peace.

I’m not looking for customer service willing to replace a crappy product three or four times in less than a year. I’m looking for a quality product that doesn’t need replaced. The customer service is built into the product.
