nice video! How do you create the drawings? I would love to use this method for my Thesis presentation

I may sound stupid but is a gear from delrin(dupon) worse or better than a gear made from 4140 alloy steel which is hardened by nitrogen? Regarding longevity?

Depends on application. The Delrin one will be easier (and cheaper) to manufacture (injection molding) but won't be able to handle larger torques or higher speeds, and will be weaker in bending and surface strengths. Given the same load the steel gear will far outlast the plastic one, the surface hardness and bending strengths are a magnitude larger.

Where did you pull Surface Endurance Strength from? If you could provide a source that would be great.

"A surface failure occurs when the significant contact stress equals or exceeds the surface endurance strength." "We can define a surface endurance strength SC which may also be called contact strength, the contact fatigue strength, or the Hertzian endurance strength. The strength is the contacting pressure which, after a specified number of cycles, will cause failure of the surface. Such failures are often called wear because they occur over a very long time." Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design. Estimate as functions of the hardness of the material are pretty common.
