I’m preparing for the PE exam and I find your videos the fittest teaching style for me. I had these classes 17 years ago. I was a good student but I skipped classes. Now I can’t believe preferring your videos over the textbooks. Thank you. ❤

I've never seen a worm gear drive a worm due to rotation resistance. I like the video.

Thanks! Yeah, self-locking or irreversible worm gears cannot be driven backwards, that's true. And the power efficiency for the ones that can would be terrible.

Hi ! while determining the Rby why didn't you add Wwga*r_wheel to the expression sum of moment about A, as you calculated in example 2 with bevel gears ? Thanks 😊

At 00:56 I presume the worm is right hand, as given also rotating anticlockwise based on its axis. what doesn't make sense is why is the worm gear rotating anticlockwise and not clockwise?

Yeah, this is hard to see in a 2D sketch. I will be adding short 3D videos of animations for these. But what is explained here is in indeed correct: right hand worm rotating counterclockwise from above will make the gear rotate counterclockwise from the front.

what would happen to tangential forces on the worm gear if the worm gear was sandwiched between two spurs?

The tangential forces on each side would be equal to each other (in magnitude), and added up and multiplied by the radius of the worm gear, equal to the driving torque. Draw a free body diagram of the worm gear to see this.
