I've had my Coleman Fold N' Go stove for a couple of years now and it's been...fine. But, after a while of cooking and being annoyed by the lack of flame control and the length of time it took to boil water and heat stuff up, I decided to try out the Jet Boil Genesis.
Not to give the whole end result away, but the Jet Boil is just on another level. Check out the full video for all of my observations after using both for some time as well as my thoughts on when each one makes sense for you and your set up.
The video is full of my honest feedback and thoughts and will hopefully help you make the right choice if you're looking at these two similar grills and trying to make a decision on which one is right for you.
As mentioned in the video, here are links to all the different iterations:

Jet Boil Genesis-Basecamp Edition (includes stove, carrying bag, 10" fry pan, 5 liter cook pot, and lid): amzn.to/3MIdFtF
And here's the Coleman Fold N' Go: amzn.to/478LKvh
Stanley Fry Pan Cookset (nice little pan but stuff can stick to the bottom of it): amzn.to/49w7Au9

From a budget standpoint I don’t know how anyone could justify a jet boil I have a built Jeep , as well as a really nicely built off-road trailer I definitely haven’t spared any expenses in building those two things but you know what I have in the kitchen area a Colman gas stove. There is absolutely no reason you need to spend over $ 350 for a stove. If you wanna invest in your cooking, I would start with getting higher quality pans and pots instead of a crazy expensive stove

Definitely not for everyone. I will say that a ton of stress and frustration disappeared when o switched because I didn’t have to worry nearly as much about controlling the flame to cook different things. Also depends on how much you cook and what you cook.

how can you call it a comparison video when you didn't even light the Coleman? I mean, you highlighted some features but I could have gotten the same info from reading the specs. I'm not trying to be jerk and think the video had a lot of great highlights, such as the flame control on the jetboil but how about showing the flame control on the Coleman? I just think you could have delivered a better comparison.

Appreciate the candor and feedback. I guess because I'd used the Coleman 40 times in the last couple of years so I really only wanted to use the Jetboil, haha. So I just described how the Jet Boil was better. But, you're not wrong!

Thanks! I've been wanting one of these and it was on my Christmas list - I got it! I can't wait to get out and use it. I'll be trying it out with my Coleman Camp Oven. I do have the Coleman classic stoves (3) and had the same problem with adjusting the flame - it would just bounce back when you turn it, making it difficult to get fine control. The heat output is awesome though.

Take off the knobs on the Coleman and clean out the heavy (and probably dried up) grease and replace with a lighter grease and the bounce back on the knobs will be solved. As far as saving "a ton of time" I guess that depends if you consider 4 or 5 minutes a ton of time. There are certainly times when going expensive pays off - but IMO this isn't one of them. You can pick up a used Coleman for $40 and spend the $300 elsewhere. That's my opinion

I have heard that about the Colemans and cleaning out the grease. It's always been like that, since new. I definitely understand where you're coming from on the money side too. I've had the Coleman for a few years (and other stoves too) and it's done fine. But I do like the smaller size of the Jetboil, the quicker, easier set up and cleaning, and the control of the burners and it makes me want to cook more stuff on it.

I can second this. I own the Fold N Go (as well as the FyreSergeant for my beefier camp kit) and I took apart my knobs and re-greased 'em and I can confirm that you have 100% CONTROL over the flame with fine-tuned adjustments. It's an easy fix and there are videos all over KZbin on this. I looked into the Jetboil Genesis and couldn't justify the purchase at all. I should add: this isn't coming from someone who doesn't have the money to blow because I actually do. I just don't think this is a fair comparison at all. Fold N Go has just as much value if not more given the price. Also, for those on a budget, with all the money that you save, go and use the extra to splurge on quality essentials for the rest of your camp kitchen.

Been really wanting to pick up the Jetfoil Genesis simply due to weight savings from my Everest. This review solidified that should stick w/ Jetboil.

Glad it was helpful! It's a super nice stove and I don't think I'm going back to the cheaper ones anytime soon. Pretty sure this thing will last for years too.

Have a half gen and friend has the Colmen. We both feel the Jetboil is worth extra cost with better flame control and the way it packs up. Our biggest grip is the solid gas pipe which makes the LP hard to position, looking to replace with a flexible hose
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 6 ай бұрын
Nice! Good point on the solid, proprietary LP pipe. I am usually attaching mine to a longer flexible hose to reach my 5 lb propane, so it hasn't been much of a hassle for me, but I did use a 1 pound tank one time and it was kind of a pain.

I have the old Coleman which I leave in the house for when losing power in winter. It's kind of a bummer out in the wind. I got the Jetboil to take on trips, which I got on a 20 percent off plus gift cards I got at Christmas. It is very nice, but one better have the pot and frypan clean to put it away! I have a couple cast iron pieces to cook in anyway and a little Stanley to heat water. Yes, the control is excellent. I could have lived with the Half-Gen but oh, well.

The half gen is a pretty cool thing too. I hadn't even heard of that until after I picked this up.

How long would the jetboil last when you are cooking if you are using the little propane tanks that go in the Buddy Heater?
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 6 ай бұрын
Pretty long. I've used it on a 1 pound tank probably 4 or 5 times for maybe 20 minutes each time and it's barely put a dent in the tank. Still has plenty of propane left.

Bought one of these about 4 years ago with another of the frying pans and the luna burner. game changer. went through a bunch of other stoves and thought the everest was good. this blows it out of the water.

That's been my experience too. Seems like not a huge difference, but it really is a game changer for cooking.

I'm in the midwest so don't deal with super strong winds, but it's done great in the winds I've seen and it includes a windshield too.

Bit the bullet and bought the Jetboil Basecamp system with a 25% off code,never pay retail lol. The Coleman is definitely priced right but the lack of fine tuning of the flame was a big CON for me.

People kind of laugh or give me a hard time in the comments about the "control" part of the Jetboil but I think those people either don't really care about cooking and just boil water and do freeze dried meals or they haven't actually used a Jet Boil side by side with a Coleman Fold 'N Go. When you actually experience the difference (not to mention the smaller size which makes it easier to store, which is important with all the gear some of us carry) then it kind of sells you on it pretty quickly.
