Key leaves are great! The vent vine is good too, just a bit more fiddly

I don't think I'd have the patience for the vines, but I love the leaves!!

Spooky , was only listening to the designer of the key leaves only yesterday on saxophone podcasts ,very informative,and how Much gunk , can be found within the Sax , that can actually disable your Sax from playing to its full potential,through improper ,cleaning ,General hygiene,and drying out of your horn after use ,thanks for bringing this to every ones attention Scott .

Hey Paul! Lots and lots of gunk! haha. Especially if you play a lot. No matter how much you clean your air, their is a constant flow of air, salvia, condensation, etc. going through it. And when it dries on the pads it gets sticky. It's even worse if someone eats or drinks while they are playing.... and I've been known to drink a beer or two on gigs :-).

Thanks Scott. You talked about "flying to the moon". Would be possible if every 2 weeks (or less or more) to teach us a standard like this one, I mean give some informations about the author, date, the meaning of the song, specificity of the song and of course how to play it with a TENOR (if you could use it sometimes) and an Alto. The Idea for your followers would be to have more standards in mind, to be more confortabe with jazz and blues music (you can teach pop song as well) and more important how to learn them and remember them without needing to read the sheet. You already use Summertime in few tutos. Thanks for thinking in. Cheers and again thanks for your sharing.

Hey Patrick! That will actually be another part of the sax school I was telling you about in the last comment. I'll have songs that I teach how to play, the chords, how to ad lib, how to improv over. etc. The whole idea will be to build the students repertoire of songs that he/she can play.

Hi Scott! Love your videos! I love the idea of Key Leaves but was wondering: wouldn’t keeping those keys open put too much stress on the springs of those keys and throw the action out? Thanks!
@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 6 жыл бұрын
Hey! No, when you open the pad it actually releases the tension of the spring, so it won't effect it at all.

Yes, we inherited this problem directly from Selmer Balanced Action mechanics. Use a pad dryer. It's boring, but keeps pads clean.
@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 6 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of a pad dryer, sounds time consuming.

Pad dryer - teardrop shaped piece of some absorbent cloth, like a flannel or microfiber. After swabbing, you place it underneath of the pad and than pull out.

Why cut it in half? You could have just removed the leaf from the link rubber.

Scott, I'm confused on church modes? And in improv chromatic riff that sounds cool..dont know how to describe it..
@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by church modes, but I do know in contemporary church music they do a zillion chord substitutions. Is that what you are talking about?

@@ScottPaddock yea, but I think I'm trying to get ahead of my self..sry...I like triads pairs a lot....got my all major scales down..just remembering chords it's a lot..I'm a hobbyist on music...what do you reccomend for exercises...I'm ok on paying for triads stuff..if u can build exercise in all keys or based on chords..251..that will be cool..or if u know a book..I'm kind of mid intermediate level..I did ask for the triad vid..u post it..thank you for that..

If it just keeps the pad open can't we just stick anything there instead?
@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, and no. You don't want something that is going to damage the pad or something that will open the key to much. You could definitely use something else, but this is built to do the job perfectly .
@ajkirkcaldie
@ajkirkcaldie 6 жыл бұрын
You also need to be aware of the potential damage from propping the key open, and then having pressure applied from the case or the like. These are silicone and will compress without causing damage

Well, I'm actually the master of buying gadgets so I would have bought this but it's not sold overseas. (And quite expensive for what it does, the solution is much simpler). So I searched online and found posts that discussed this back since 2009 and found that for people like me he can't purchase this, the solution is rather simple and cheap. The concept is to just use a material (Rizla/foam/etc) that keeps the pad slightly open which helps the air pass and dry the C#/D#/G# keys. I hadn't had a problem with the G# anyway ever since I started always cleaning my sax after every practice with the swab (keep your mouth clean too of course before you blow). And concerning the D#, that key, although prone to stick because it's one of the 3 keys that auto-close, but I've found that mechanically all it ever needed was only the FIRST key press that solves it. So when I pick up the sax, the D# even if it sticks, will unstick if I just run my fingers quickly through all the keys to make sure I hear them click correctly.
