Was surprised to hear quilts/bagsd within 3oz. Realized it's true only if you compare the long/wide or long/extra wide quilts. Comparing a 20f UGQ long/wide quilt w/ 950fp: 25oz, or 26.5oz extra wide. 20f WM Ultralite is 29oz or 20f alpinlite is like 31oz. Suppose with a quilt you could have to add weight of a down baclava maybe ~2oz too if you do that.

Ha. Been using a v1 GoLite Breeze since 2000. Thousands of trail miles. Still the best for me (and I've tried all the trendy modern variations that quickly go out of style). If it ain't broke (and it ain't), why spend money on a slightly improved, heavily overpriced copy?

Coup (and Ray) would love to hear that endorsement.

Well I didn't sew my own so not sure Ray would be impressed...😅. But it was Rays book that inspired me back then. Created my own route circumnavigating the Colorado Plateau in 2001...and the Breeze that I used for those 2,200 miles is still going strong today (used it yesterday). Almost 25 years of consistent use (not just backpacking...I've used it skiing 14ers, canyoneering slots, and for international travel) and still haven't had to mend a single seam or tear. Those were well made, for sure. I buy up every one I can find on eBay...just in case mine finally fails...but they don't come around often. Shelters on the other hand...I'll take the latest and greatest anyday. Ha!

40:21 - it makes me laugh the way Dan locks in on a question like this, you can see a little twinkle in his eye. I’ve really only ever seen this level of focus and poise in the brief moments before an apex predator like a Harpy Eagle descends on a small wounded tree dwelling mammal… perhaps a wounded sloth.
